Ahh, the age old Water question. I always look forward to the responses to this. When I did weight watchers, everyone used to swear by this site that said it was based on your weight and that you should drink half your weight in ounces of Water per day. Meaning that a 300 pound person should drink 150 ounces of water a day! :) If I did that, I would never leave my bathroom. The funny thing was, of course this site would say that because they sell water! The more you drink, the more profit they make.

I have talked to my surgeon, my regular doctor, my obgyn and 3 different nutrionists about this. They have all said the same thing. The old standard of six - 8 ounce glasses per day is what we need.

My docs paperwork said 5-8 glasses (8oz) each day so I think I would definitely agree with all the specialists Susan spoke with - 6 sounds like the magic number. :)

The answer to this question is in the color of your urine. The stronger or deeper the color of the urine, the more you need to drink. Urine should be a pale yellow color and THAT determines how much Water you need to drink.

Drink until your pee looks like Water. :) The rule of thumb is that when your pee looks like Water you're drinking enough, and when your poop floats you're eating the right things. Not so sure about that last one, but that's what I've always been told.

The guidelime my doctor gives is a base of 64oz, which is a daily minimum, not maximum, plus 8 more 8oz for every 10 lbs you're overweight.

But that's not "right" because, like how many calories to eat each day, there is no "right" answer that fits everyone.

I have heard it both ways...#1/i heard that you take your weight and divide it by 2.2 and thats how many ounces you drink a day #2/my dr says 64 ounces of Water a day and go over that if you can to help flush out your body...Now if I were to do #1 there would be no way to have a normal routine thru the day cuz you would be living right next to the bathroom and have a perminant toilet ring around your butt...lol...So I try to stick with a little over the 64 ounces and that keeps me in the bathroom enough

6-8 glasses a day should be ample for everyone - and I agree, if you're urine is clearish then your'e drinking enough. There's nothing to be gained by consuming massive amounts of Water over and above what your body needs.

And other fluids DO count as Water contrary to popular belief. No doc would tell you to consume 6 to 8 cups of coffee a day or 6 to 8 glasses of coke, but regardless of the other crap in it, it is still water and still helps to hydrate your body. But you're better off without so much of the bad things of course.

I agree Jacqui! I am not a big fan of plain old boring Water. I asked my nutrionist if it is ok that I am getting it via Crystal Light and she said that is fine.

If your poop floats, it could be full of fat. Fat floats, poop sinks. If you have gallbladder problems, your bile is not getting to your digestive sysem to break down the fats, and your dr. may ask you if you poop floats.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
