Vsg Has Literally Saved My Life (May Be Tmi)

Recommended Posts

I have been post-menopausal for 5 years. I had started spotting off and on a few months before my VSG but after surgery I have been having a full-fledged period like, every 2 weeks ! So... I followed my mother's advice (she's always right) and talked to my PCP about it. He didn't like the sounds of my symptoms and ordered an ultrasound. That showed that my uterus is enlarged and the walls were thickened. The PCP sent me to a gynecologist. She did a biopsy and I got the results today - I have endometrial uterine cancer. I now have an appointment with an oncologist and I'm pretty sure I'll be just fine (and lose more weight too ! ;-)

If my hormones hadn't been stirred up by getting the VSG, I would have been content with putting up with the occasional spotting for a long, long time.... more than likely, too long.

So thank you Sleevie ! And thank You God !

-Sheila

My goodness that is a mixture of good and bad! It sounds like you got it caught early enough! So glad to hear that you went to the doctor and the signs had you concerned.

You will fight it and you will beat it. None of us have to give into cancer, we exist in an age that we are literally able to cure diabeties through curing obesity, cancer will be nothing!

I know you are scared, please be ok with that. Listen to your body. Find something new everyday to go "I am fighting for ME, to appreciate and experience THIS."

Keep the wind at your back, and call upon us if it changes directions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
