Am 2 days out. Much better today. Lost 11 pounds in 9 days since starting the Protein Shakes. Very sore abdomen, but sipping away. Got 3/4 of my Protein in and working on the Water intake. I am so head hungry tho. Everything smells so delish! Scared I will be able to do this once u can eat more.

I know the feeling, I'm 5 days post op and today I feel as though I'm starving. I can't stomach broth. I had about of an ounce of Protein Shake today, I don't think I was suppose to but I had to do something. I also have "head hunger", food just smells so good. I wonder if I am going to be able to do this. I was thinking about trying some mushies to see if that helps.

LOL, I feel much better since I had some protien shake and I also had a small taste of unsweetened applesauce. It was sooooo good, and did not bother my new tummy at all=) I am just so worried that I will do something wrong and ruin the whole thing.... I LOVE food, I love to cook, I am a southern girl and cook that way. This is going to be more difficult than I imagined.

Keep in touch and up to date on your progress!!

Def. you too. I had 1/2 turkey meatball and 2 bites of sweet mashed pots. Was good. It is better if I keep hydrated enough.

You guys are lucky, I am still on clear fluids, until Sunday (10 days post-op) & then I can add in Protein shakes. Then another 2 weeks before I can add in mushies/purees!!

My head is definitely hungry. Been craving chinese noodles & pizza today! lol

Wow, your surgeon is very conservative with the food progression. I could do without the mushiness, but you must b so tired w/o the Protein.< /p>

Actually not tired, but I do feel hungry. But think it is head hunger as when I drink a bit of fluids I feel full.

I had surgery on Monday. I'm on clear liquid for 2 weeks, then full liquids for weeks 3-6, then puréed/soft foods for weeks 7-12, then finally small bites of regular food from week 13 onward.

So far I have been fine on my Clear Liquids & do not have any head hunger at all. It may just be the "honeymoon phase" but I'm hoping it stays this way!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
