Too Good To Be True?

Recommended Posts

So this may not be something to complain about but I was just banded this week and I was expecting many complications from it but so far I havent had anything happen which seems to good to be true. The only thing I can really complain about is the fact that my surgery sites are very sore. Other then that I am kinda bothered by the fact that I dont know what the meaning of the word "Restriction" is yet. Makes me worry if the band isnt on right or something. Or maybe I am just not eating enough? I drink Water just fine also, does resitriction occur after your first ajustment? Its my understanding you dont get you first ajustment until 6 weeks after. Other then site soreness I feel the same post-op as I do pre-op. Freeks me out.

Gummibear, please read the information you dr provided and other threads here.

You were just banded. Your body needs to heal. You are going through a stage where you have limited food (as prescribed by your dr) until your body heals. You may lose weight and you may gain during this time period. Just think of it as a healing time and that your band is on vacation until the first fill.

You may or may not get restriction on your first fill. It may take multiple fills. The band is a tool, not a miracle. You did not gain weight overnight and will not take it off overnight. After 15 months, I have lost over 70 pounds but am not finished. From day 1, I anticipated this would be a multiple year journey.

Every day that I am not gaining weight, I am healthier than I was before.

I am sorry that you did not understand the process you will go through with your band. Please read many threads, including FAQ, food topics, etc to prepare you for your band journey. Celeste

Restriction from the band - the restriction of the amount of food you can eat won't really come for a few weeks, usually after your first fill, but maybe not even then. It might take a couple of fills. However, you stomach is pretty swollen right now and you most likely won't be able to eat for awhile. Stick with the eating guidelines your doctor gave you and read the literature, too if he/she gave you any. Investigate old threads here on the forum. Ask questions. We will help, too.

Like you, I didn't experience any complications at all. My incisions were sore, and my port is still tender if I press on it.

We are among the lucky ones that felt great from the get go.:clap2:

Gummi - on the food forum, the first thread is a list of suggested food stages one received from someone's dr. That may be a good place to start. Sorry your dr or nurse did not provide more info.

I also did not have any problems after surgery. I went to Liberia three weeks after surgery. When I returned home, I got my first fill and still did not have restriction. My 2nd fill gave me restriction.

Restriction is an elusive thing in my experience also. But I'm also a new bandster with one fill in my VG band. What I have experienced is the night craving munchie monsters have gone into hiding. I eat somewhat smaller portions also during the day. So, for now I'm waiting on my next fill in a week and trying to work my tool!

You should try not to be bothered by the restriction thing...I didn't really understand what it felt like until 2 months post-op, after my first fill. The band needs adjusted to get restriction and it's better to work up to it than to have your band too tight. Be patient, if you just had surgery this week you should concentrate on healing...restriction will come for you in time! Most doctors don't make the band too tight during surgery because the last thing you want is to have PB's, sliming or even worse, vomiting during the healing stage. Good luck!

Some people don't have too much of an appetite but others, like me, have a pretty normal appetite. It doesn't get as crazy as it used to though.

I'm not hungry I just had my surgery last week and I can go all day with no food. I actually have to kinda make an effort to Get stuff in because I know I am lacking the protien I need. I am doing a bit better tho.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
