I start my two week all liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous but excited because it means my VSG is right around the corner. I have decided to be as strict as possible, and cleaned out my pantry, fridge and freezer (there was a well timed food drive in my area). I have only kept a few frozen fish fillets and eggs just in case I get homocidal around day 3! It's a matter of public safety..Wish me luck...

Started mine last week and the Protein Shakes really helped. About day six I had that homocidal behavior lol! my poor sis had a few chicken nuggets left in her plate and let's just say she values her lilfe lol!! now I'm much better at walking away and lost 12lbs but was only asked to lose 10lbs.

Good luck. It's easier than it sounds. Just remember you're doing it for a reason :-)

Best wishes to all of you on your pre-op! I was there only a few short weeks ago and can totally relate. It's not the easiest but it definitely prepares you for post op and makes your surgery go as smooth as possible. Take care and enjoy even the hardest of moments, they end up being the most memorable/meaningful!

You will do great! My doctor has me doing only five days, but I know everyone is different. Before you know it, you won't even want those food items!

My doctor did not put me on a Pre op diet and I'm kind of wondering why not. My BMI is 39. Could that be why? Any ideas? Should I go ahead and do liquids for the next couple of weeks anyway?

My BMI is 37 and I am doing a 14 days liquid only. I think it is totally dependent on your doctor.

My doctor actually told me to eat all of my favorite foods until the week before surgery but of course I've gained a few pounds doing that. My surgery is set for the 31 so I think I will take it easy on the food from now on!! Lol

You may not have to do the 14 day liquid diet like some people have to do, but it wouldn't hurt to do it for at least a week. It will give your stomach time to clean out and shrink your liver so it will make the surgery easier on your doctor. There is a reason why so many doctors do this. If you look on Youtube for the actual surgery you will see that they need to shrink the liver to be able to get full access to your stomach. Also, a cleaned out belly & intestines is much safer in general. Perhaps you should question your doctor why he believes there is no reason to go on a liquid diet prior to surgery, I can tell you most of us would love it if we didn't have to, but I would think it is safer and sets you up for a safer surgery.

My doctor didn't require a pre-op diet. I asked him about it and he said it wasn't necessary. I'm 1 week out and am doing fine-- have lost 7 lbs since surgery.

My Dr didn't require a pre-op diet either. I was on Clear Liquids for the day b4 only. I'm 4 weeks post op and everything went fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
