I was sleeved march 25. Almost 3 weeks ago. I'm hungry all the time. I'm kind of freaking out thinking I've already stretched my sleeve out. Whn I eat it's 1/2 cup at a time. Lo fat Soups or tuna salad.

I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast, 1/2 cup lo at Soup for lunch & just had a fat free pudding for snack. I feel like I could still eat more. Is this normal? I just started feeling the hunger for the last few days.

Any suggestions or comments?

Sounds pretty normal compared to me.

You have to think that most of what you are eating (jello, Soup, Protein drinks) goes through you very fast. Its when you start eating plain pure protein- just tuna, just chicken, etc is when you will really feel it.

Also- at 3 weeks, you may notice a slight increase in volume & capacity simply because the swelling should be almost gone.

I was in your shoes at 3 weeks too- I was PETRIFIED of streching and "popping" my sleeve- I could eat/drink much more than lots of people on the forum. But I kept to the perscribed diet progression and felt good/strong.... I am normal now (VSG normal) in eating & drinking and small amounts of pure Protein do the trick and the weight loss is trucking along.

As for the hunger- take your PPI and be mindful of the head hunger that makes you overdo it. Its so crazy how just one bite is overfill and gets you to that "ugggggh" stage!

Sounds like me! I was sleeved on March 28th and I noticed that once I started eating real solid foods and NOT drinking with my meals, I finally stayed full for several hours. I still gravitate towards softer foods just because I like them...protein shakes, Beans, yogurts, puddings, etc. All of the foods you listed were soft and liquid like Protein Shakes and Soups. Try a crabcake or a piece of chicken-you will feel like you just finished a huge mexican food bufffet!

If you aren't on a ppi, you need to get one. Acid mimics hunger and you'll find that you feel much better as long as you take it every day. If you're on one, you might need o have it changed. Some that work for others, may not work for you.

The dr gave me protonix. I think this is for acid

Pardon my stupidity, but what is a PPI?? What is it used for?

Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a group of drugs whose main action is a pronounced and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid production.

ANOTHER STUPID QUESTION.....will an acid reflux reducer such as pepcid or prilosac work as well as the PPI?

Just eat lean meats (proteins) first, then veggies and you should be fine. Once you're allowed to anyway. I'm 6+ months out and can eat a good cup and a half of food and it seems to be inching up every month. I bet I'm eating 2 cups in a few months. : ( But I'm still slowly losing, so it's all good I guess.

A ppi is an acid reducer for heart burn. Such as protonic, nexium, prevacid, and tums. When not taking one you will think that pain is hunger and it is not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
