Less Than 24Hrs To Being Sleeved And Am Scared To Death.. :(

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow at 12:30, I will be sleeved by Dr. Nain of BluePoint Sugerical Group. I started this journey excited and determined to be successful in getting approved. To my surprise, it was not hard at all. Now I am right at the door of surgery, and am thinking about not showing up. I have no clue why I am scared, I have a strong belief in God and I already prayed about this surgery so deep down I know it will be okay. I guess I am just nervous about being put to sleep and being sick afterwards. Then there is also the burden that my mind plays on me, which keeps telling me that this will be like all the other diets: Not Successful. I have no one really to talk to about this, because I chose to only tell 3 people about it, with one only being a close family member. I just pray that I get some rest tonight and that everything goes smoothly tomorrow morning when it’s time to leave for the hospital....

It's natural to be nervous and/or scared before surgery. It doesn't matter how needed it is, your mind will go through all the what ifs. Just trust in God and yourself that this is the best option for you. You're doing this to get a second chance at a healthy life.

Try to get some rest. Definitely ask for anti-anxiety medicine tomorrow! That will definitely help.

Please post after you've had surgery and let us know how you're doing. There will be many users here looking for an update and praying for you during your procedure.

You will be fine! I was very nervous before my surgery and also thought gee maybe I'll just not go. But this is not going to be any other diet. It's going to change your life. You somply won't be able to eat what you did before... I messed up and had some potatoe chips recently and I really regretted it(bad acid reflux for the day) so I learned my lesson with that. I've also ate too much once and just had a very uncomfortable feeling for the rest of the day. So Am learning to eat slowly now and really try to listen to my body...

I was sleeved on 4-24-12 and I'm down 47 pounds!

Best of luck to you tomorrow!

I am sure that many of us wondered what the "refund policy" of our surgeons would be if we ran for it from the pre-op room! Lol! A little nervousness or a little second guessing is normal.

It sounds like you have got a few people to give you the emotional support and you have your faith helping you too. Use them when you are feeling scared- thats what they are there for.

Try and get some good rest tonight and if you have time prior to the surgery to keep yourself distracted, work on a "new-me-list" of things that you are looking forward to once you are on your way to goal- activities you want to do, clothing you hope to wear, weight goals, etc.

In my experience, there was some delays/waiting in the pre-op area and I really had to focus on meditating and even did some "gurney-yoga" to relax and center my head.

Good vibes your way and congrats on your journey to a life beyond your wildest dreams!

Breathe!! Remember (or even write down) all the reasons you really want (or need) this surgery. Then breathe again. Someone from another post said, not to worry about dying that it would be "bad for business." I had to laugh at that, but seriously...trust in your surgeon and your choice to better your life! THEN BREATHE again!

It's ok and natural to be nervous, excited and every other emotion under the sun, but when it's all said and done and you get through your good and (and tougher) days you'll be so happy that you did this.

God Speed for your recovery and keep us posted!

It is the most comforting feeling for me to know that I have this little restrictive tool to help me on my path of getting healthy.

The surgery was actually a breeze for me. A little discomfort afterward, but not much and they gave me a morphine pump if I needed a little. I was walking the same afternoon, and went home the next morning.

Take some nice deep breaths, and they will normally give you something to help you relax before you actually get wheeled into the operating room.

It's gonna be fine and you will never regret this decision!

My surgery is on Thursday and I am about jump out of my skin... I have so many fears! Then when I tell someone I'm having it, their first response is "you aren't big enough, are you?". I'm right at 100lbs overweight, my labs & risk factors are off the chart... my bmi is 38. My dilemma was: do it now while I can or put it off another few years and risk my health... :(

I don't know about anyone else, but this almost feels like this surgery is going to save my life. I did discuss my fears with my Doctor today and his reply was "Well, if you put average effort into your sleeve, you'll get average results. If you eat right, exercise and use your tool, you'll get better than average results". It clicked... for the first time... it clicked!

Thoughts & prayers!!

I am definitely a bit nervous but I am more afraid of not doing it. I am 42 and have been on BP meds since my mid-20s! I am scared to death of diabetes, which both of my parents and most of their siblings have. My mother experienced heart and kindney failure as a result of long-term high blood pressure and ended up having a heart and kidney transplant. Several of her siblings have had heart attacks or kidney failure. My father's side of the family also has high blood presure and high rates of cancer. My parents are not and have never been obese. So genetics are not in my favor. Given that, I definitely need to lose the weight and do everything I can to counteract them. I want to get rid of the blood pressure meds and avoid any of the other stuff.

All of that is to say that you will do fine. I think the nervousness is normal but you clearly made an informed decision. Now you just need to trust yourself.

I really appreciate you sharing how you feel. I am sure I will be feeling the same way before my surgery. I know it will feel surreal if I ever make it to the pre-op room. I am afraid of the pre-op diet, too. But I liked the comment by shangefan that I am more afraid not to have it. I am 63 and want to make the most of the next 20+ yrs. God bless you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
