I'm also 7 weeks out and started salads last week and no problems whatsoever. Of course its the teeniest salad in order to have the greater part of my meal as Protein. But I can't wait to enjoy my salads this summer!

I was not allowed salad for 8 weeks, but it always goes down well. I find that I no longer like iceberg lettuce. It is harder to chew and digest. (Now that I finally chew my food for the first time in my life!) I use the bags of cut up romaine or spinach or bibb lettuce now. I usually put shrimp or chicken in my slalds, so I eat that first then tomatoes, or other stuff, etc., then I may eat a little of the lettuce if I am not full.

I didn't have a salad until 3 months out. Mine now are usually heavy on the Protein items (eggs, cheese, chicken) then some veggies (tomato, cucumber) and last I worry about the lettuce part. I use cottage cheese sparingly as the dressing sometimes, although I do have several different kinds of Salad Dressing on hand. I just don't really like to have my salad doused in dressing like I did pre-op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
