Look@meitsEmily 26 Posted May 15, 2012 Hi everyone! I love this forum; thank you to everyone who shares their stories. I have just begun the 6 month process... it sucks but I understand, I guess. I wondered why I have not been put on a diet to lose weight prior to surgery. I did my consultation and now I'm a bit confused about what comes next. I've been visiting my PCP but she doesn't know what to do other than fill out the form my surgeon's office provided. I have my appointment scheduled for the dietitian so now I'm playing the waiting game. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Calicolea 38 Posted May 15, 2012 Welcome! I didn't go thru the 6 month countdown so I'm zero help in that department...... but I'm always good for a smile and a hug Best of luck!
ikwa 13 Posted May 15, 2012 The surgeon will get the ball rolling for nutrition classes and all. Anyway that is what they did for me. It all depends on your insurance for what is reqired. You could ask them what is required.
Pennie 66 Posted May 15, 2012 The dietician will probably be the one to help you with a diet plan. It sounds like your surgeon's office is working with your insurance company to make sure you meet the requirements of the 6 month diet - which is a good thing! Congratulations on starting this journey!! Remember, any weight you can lose pre-op is weight you don't have to lose post-op!
kczar 166 Posted May 15, 2012 Welcome to the site! I'm in the middle of my six month diet program. It's been good so far. I've met with the NUT three times and I'm now switching over to my PCP to finish it out. (My NUT is leaving to have a baby.) My PCP got sleeved last year so he's a big advocate of it and will fill out the form dating back to my physical in January, so it's basically cutting two months off the process! I'm glad my insurance requires this program. It gives me time to adapt and adjust to what my new lifestyle will be so I don't get hit with everything at once. I'm working on not drinking during meals, trying different Protein powders/drinks and adding exercise. It will be over before you know it and you'll be on the loser's bench! Good luck. NisaletOAM 48 Posted May 15, 2012 I'm also doing the 6 month thing. my surgeon has a NUT on site and I have already seen her my PCP is doing the monthly weight in and was advice by him to try and lose 10-20 pounds before surgery and to always try to make it before the date of my 1st weight in. Good Luck to you.
