buffalogal 52 Posted May 15, 2012 Reading the list for the hospital list got me thinking about clothes. How quickly do you start going down in sizes, and how frequently do you need to move to the next size? Do you just go through a period of time when you don't have much to wear? I keep telling myself not to bother buying more clothes these days, because hopefully it won't be long before I don't need them.
christine50 9 Posted May 15, 2012 Depends on how loose your clothing is. Not until 50 lbs./ 2 mo. did I give up my old pants. And get smaller ones out of the closet. Take it one day at a time.
Trcyprkr70 69 Posted May 15, 2012 buffalogal I am still waiting for my surgery date but I was told by a family member that had the gastric bypass to not buy clothes.... besides the ones I wear now is fitting rather snug these days. I wanted to by new clothes before I went to Vegas a few weeks ago but then I thought I better not because if the weight comes off rapidly that would be a waste of money. I would say for me I could probably lose 30 lbs before buying new clothers depending on how they are made. I guess the good thing is it will come off fast and slow for a while and then pick back up. My cousin said she started out with about four pants and shirts and she wore spandex for a good while as she loss. That's the beauty of being sleeved in the summer because I love dresses and I can probably wear them for a while.
ereneeh 77 Posted May 15, 2012 I have lost 82 lbs and have bought 4 pairs of pants. 2 pairs at Goodwill and 2 pair at TJMaxx. 2 of those pair I didn't buy until 50 lbs down and have moved past them. (Couldn't think of what to say because we used to say we outgrew our clothes. Woo hoo, no more of that) Thankfully I had kept my clothes from my last weight loss from 6 years ago, so I just keep pulling out more clothes. I have almost exhausted my supply though. I have bought tops for work because my shirts got too big. Don't buy anything until after surgery though. Then have fun. 2 TakeDeLongWayHome and petal reacted to this
shangefan 193 Posted May 15, 2012 I understand your desire to buy new stuff right now. I have regained much of the weight I lost after my lapband. I got rid of most of my clothes when I lost that weight so I now have very little to wear. I am always tempted to buy new stuff but I have convinced myself that I do not want to invest in any clothing at my current size. If I do, it will definitely be pieces from the Goodwill or someplace very inexpensive like that. For folks buying clothes as you decrease, I know that the discount stores are favorites, but I just want to say that Macy's is a great option, too. They constantly have sales and there are always ways to get additional discounts (through coupons or by using your Macy's card). I have found that shopping strategically there, I get basic items as inexpensively as in many discount stores. I have no investment or special relationship to Macy's; I am simply speaking from my experience as a clothes horse. And I can't wait to actually enjoy clothes again. Shoe_Vixen 23 Posted May 15, 2012 I've been holding off on buying anything new as well, luckily I kept several different sizes throughout the years! My bariatric center also has a clothing swap for patients, maybe see if yours does too? Im just looking forward to my pants being too big my only clothing issue =)

I was telling my mother that buying clothes can get expensive even though I love shopping and have way to many plus size clothes...

Macy's is one of my favorite stores but once I am able to buy smaller clothes (12 and smaller) I will probably start shopping there angain. I did buy a summer dress last year and I still buy there shoes but now I don't really buy shoes at all because I heard your feet get smaller...go figure

ereneeh 77 Posted May 15, 2012 My feet didn't get smaller, just not so fat and swollen. So my feet aren't any shorter but my shoes swim on me now. I do love TJ Maxx and Ross. My personal motto is "Never pay full price for anything". I wish I had a Macy's close. I was quite excited finding a couple of tops on clearance at Kohl's. They are Vera Wangs. I have never been able to wear anything she made. Cool NSV.

I can't wait to be able to rock some heals..like long sexy ones.. 2 Irishqwn5 and Trcyprkr70 reacted to this
keybold64 43 Posted May 15, 2012 Definitely check out your local Goodwill or consignment type stores - I was amazed at the quality of stuff I've found there for super cheap! And once those clothes get too big you can just re-donate them again! 1 Trcyprkr70 reacted to this
Lissa 2,631 Posted May 15, 2012 I'm just now getting into "normal" sizes, but I've bought very little in the way of clothes, IMO. When my pants get too big, I'll buy a pair of black pants and a pair of jeans because I'm loving jeans these days. As for shirts, I've had pretty good luck. I can sew, and I've taken in the sides on quite a few shirts. However, I've also bought quite a few cheap t-shirts to round out my workout wardrobe. My local Goodwill only seems to go up to size 18 for most of their clothes, although I've been lucky and found a couple of blouses there. It's weird for me to be able to buy non-plus size clothes. I almost feel like I'm sneaking into the normal sizes section and I have no idea from looking what will fit me now. I literally have to grab two or three sizes of a shirt or pants and try them all on to find which ones fit me. What's worse is that I'm shape shifting, so the brands that used to be comfortable don't necessarily fit right these days. Before, I had a small waist compared to my hips. Now that equation is starting to reverse because my tummy isn't shaping up as quickly as my tush. I see major Spanx in my future! LOL 2 Trcyprkr70 and petal reacted to this
Liliana Arleen 173 Posted May 15, 2012 It actually depends,at first I was dropping sizes faster, now that I almost at goal I am dropping sizes slowly I still at size 7 and my goal is size 4. Try to shop at thrift stores while you go down in sizes,is what I do Then you can focus on buying new clothes when you reach your goal size 1 Irishqwn5 reacted to this
Irishqwn5 13 Posted May 15, 2012 I have started buying new clothes and find it quit expensive to keep buying pants all the time so what i am doing is the clearence rack at Walmart for jeans and shorts and even better i bought a few very cute maxi dresses for the summer and all i have to do is run a hem down the side as i shrink so for summer time i plan on staying in maxi dresses when winter comes i will buy pants jeans etc save some money. Hope this helps 1 Trcyprkr70 reacted to this
