Tonight I went to my first of 8 classes, and I'll have my date in four weeks. I have the choice between bypass or sleeve, and at first I thought I'd do the bypass, but now I'm leaning towards the sleeve. I'm interested in hearing from folks on their thoughts of the pros and cons. Going to class tonight and really starting to see the process in action really excites me. I'm ready for this and looking forward to the next chapter in my life. One of the women in my class said to me,"Just think, 10 weeks from now, this will all be behind us!". That was a pretty amazing thought. :)

I like the sleeve because...I have the bottom part of my stomach. food doesnt just dump into my bowels. Leading to diarrha. Plus I think removing most of the stomach, helps with hunger. Girls I work with still eat alot with the bypass it seam like. You dont get the dumping syndrome as much with the sleeve over by-pass. You still can dump but not as much. I am very happy. Also vit and mineral get absorded better with the sleeve because you have part of your stomach not so with the by-pass.

Yeah, that Vitamin absorption business really worries me. The thought of my hair falling out also scares me.

as long as you get all your Protein that you are suppose to get and definietely take your Vitamins everyday, your Hair loss should be at a minimum.Ithink the sleeve is a better option,in my opinion

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
