Thanks ladies I don't know why I'm craving a sprite I wasn't a soda drinker but for some reason I want one.......

Sent from my iPhone using VST

The other day I was craving a soda really badly. Instead I got a G2 at the store. After a few sips I realized it wasn't a soda I wanted but the fluids. I was just really thirsty and wanted something very cold.

I am 2 months out and I have a sip every once in a while. I would NEVER open a can or buy a bottle for myself - I would figure out a way to drink the whole thing! I will steal a sip from my partner and she scolds me but it is good. Most of the time it is a reminder that it doesnt taste nearly as good as it used to! I have read that it stretches your sleeve and I have also read that there is no medical research that supports the theory. I think in this new life I have to remember something - everything in moderation. We all have to live right?!!!!!!!

There is no research to support this theory because there is little research on the sleeve in general. I am sure in another 15 years we may see something on this. We are all guinea pigs when it comes to this surgery. Because there is so little research I tend to err to the side of caution on this one. It makes perfect sense that the carbonation will slowly expand your stomach. It may not be true, but since it seems logical to me, I am going to stick with it.

I haven't had a soda in over 7 months but the other day my husband got a fountain drink (pepsi) and it was so cold and it had those tiny little bubbles popping up off the ice that I couldn't help myself just one sip. Well that's all I took! Holy Cow! I could not believe how much it burned my mouth and tasted like Syrup. I guess after so long without it now it's just too much. I still crave it once in a while but I'll stick with my Crystal Light fruit punch on ice, of course.

Well I don't know the scientific standings on the soda thing. All I know is that at 6months out I started drinking them slowly to the point I would have at least 2 a day. Well at my one yr check up, I had gained weight and I noticed that I could eat alot more than normal. That is when my Surgeon told me it was the soda and that it was stretching my sleeve/pouch. He said it was a bigger no no than alcohol. all I can say is I will never touch another soda again. Whether it's true or not I will not do it.

I haven't had the surgery yet but I will be having it next week. I am wondering if it would be better if the ice had watered it down a bit. Or if it was a little flat no carbonation. The carbonation is what swells your stomach. I have a friend and a sister that if they just want a sip they will let it sit out and get flat. I said what if you put it in a glass of ice and let it set a little to dilute the carbonation. So far they have not done that. I would think those frozen soda pops would do the same thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
