Interesting article, thanks for posting! I've been worried that the rush of hormones post-op would make my already moderate acne worse, but hadn't considered that increased hormones may be causing it to begin with.

I'd be happy with no period though, this baby factory is closed for business! LOL

Interesting. Thats a brave doc to say there is no downside to bariatric surgery though.

Thanks for that article. Interesting conclusion, but drawn from a very small sample of women. I think they'd get a better sample group HERE. :)

I have a hard time with that statement "there is no downside". It seems like he is talking about as it relates to hormones, reproductive health etc, not as a broad statement.

Thank you for posting...

The article is talking about my life. At my highest weight I would get my period maybe once every 90 days and if I go beyond that I had to take medicine to start my period. I have PCOS which I was insulin resistant, was growing hair on my chin and toes, hormone imbalance, not able to get pregnant even with the help of medications, and difficulty losing weight. My OB / GYN was the one that suggested I might want to consider getting help on the weight and to help with the insulin issues.

I am 4 weeks out from surgery and already had my 1st period. Guess what?, my cycle was for the first time in a long time, 30 days.

I agreed my my surgeon that I would wait 18 months before trying to conceive. He told me that he wants me to be selfish and learn now to adjust to my sleeve, make and perfect my new habits, and love me before taking care of another life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
