Cinemagirl 3 Posted May 14, 2012 Hi all, I'm getting my sleeve tomorrow and going through all kinds of anxiety. One issue: I live in Brooklyn, NY in a 4th floor walk-up. So I climb 55 stairs to get to my apartment. My doc said I will likely be in the hospital for two nights, but should not expect to climb those stairs. I was going to give it another 2 days, and come home Saturday (Surgery Tuesday, home Saturday?) Anyone have a clue how long it will take before I can climb that many stairs? Thanks! kayte819 95 Posted May 14, 2012 I can't speak to specifics as it pertains to the sleeve, but I can say that after I had c-sections I waited about 5 days to climb up our stairs & it felt totally fine. One factor is that each of us are different. Some people feel amazing after 2 days & hike....I felt like **** for weeks. I think it all depends. Definitely walk as much as you can stand from the first day & build up your strength!! Good luck on your surgery & here's to a speedy recovery!!

Shakey 0 Posted May 14, 2012 Stairs didn't bother me after the 2nd day. I guess it's different 4 everyone. U might be a little out of breath but there was no pain 4 me at all
kyllfalcon 768 Posted May 14, 2012 My surgeon asked about stairs, and when I told him I had a flight to deal with, he said just take them one at a time, putting first one then the other foot on the same step, and go slowly.
Pookeyism 1,143 Posted May 14, 2012 phew! - be really careful. Make plans to have an alternate plan should you not be able to go up that many stairs - just remember, you really need to be able to anticipate the unanticipated, too. If you go up that many stairs, and let's say you do it in an hour, with rest - etc...now there is a fire alarm at 2AM - real or not - and you have to haul ass down those stairs...hmmmm Consider a compression garment to help you for when you do go up the stairs, and down. Good luck!
Mab 44 Posted May 14, 2012 Please make sure there is someone with you! I can't imagine climbing 4 flights every day - with or without surgery!

Cinemagirl 3 Posted May 14, 2012 Thanks for the info, y'all. I always say if I didn't live on a 4th floor walk-up I would be 100 pounds heavier. I figure 5 days in, I will give it a try. And if there's a fire alarm at 2am, I'll make sure my honey carries by (getting smaller by the day) backside down those stairs!
mrsnate 55 Posted May 14, 2012 I walked up and Dow my stairs the day I came home from the hospital, no problem. BUT, I didn't have to do 4 flights, just 1. Be careful!
