I Rather Fat Than Skin

Recommended Posts

Ok I was on youtube last night and I saw people with disgusting hanging skin after vsg. I don't think I realized this could happen to me. I knew that my belly might hang a little but actually seeing the extent it could go to made me feel like I should have thought twice before my surgery last month.

SOOO, my question is, is there anybody out there who started around my weight 244 and does not have immense hanging skin? Or if you do... how bad is it?

Any tips so I can avoid this?

Because I'm 26 will I be ok?

Pics and posts would really help.

Your age might help. Whether or not you are left with a lot of skin will depend on more than your age, though. Genetics and how long you were obese, for example, will play into it too. It isn't always possible to predict how much hanging skin you will have.

Since you were starting with just a 40 BMI, that will also improve your odds (versus if you started with a 50 BMI).

I have some batwings that I want to take care of someday. But, personally, I'd rather have the extra skin than the extra fat!

There are plastic surgery options that can get really great results if you do find yourself with extra skin at the end of this!

I would just like to say that everyone's excess skin is not the same. I started my journey at 223 and have minimal skin excess. You are very young and your skin has a lot more elasticity to it. And, even if you have a lot of loose skin, there is plastic surgery to correct. Perhaps someday, we can have our loose skin removed to help people that have burns and need skin grafts. I love my skinny body now and have so much more energy than before. I look really hot in my cloths and love it. I also have a friend that is over weight and wears jackets all the time to cover her arms due to being embarrassed by them. So big or skinny we all have areas of our body that we are not proud of.

Now you have the surgery, you will get skinny, and you will be able to handle the loose skin. Don't stress on it, live for today, not for tomorrow. Enjoy what you have. This is an amazing journey that we choose. We will all have some excess skin but do have choices in what to do with the excess skin later on.

Oh, BTW, are you exercising? That helps tighten up your skin also. You are beautiful and let go of your anxiety so that you can live in the present moment!

I'm 51, was 49 when I was sleeved. Weighed 375, down to 205. I have SOME droopy skin but not very much - it's sometimes just blind dumb luck, your genetics and age. I seem to have beaten the odds on all 3.

I would say being thin and healthy with sagging skin is WAY better than fat and unhealthy and generally miserable. But that's just my opnion.

I am almost 29 and I have litterally no lose skin and have lost quite a bit of weight. I was afraid of this also and have been very fortunate. I am also still "thick" and don't care to lose anymore weight.

I would love to be a sexy thick girl when I am done. Probaby somewhere between 150-160 would be great! I think that if I get there I won't have too much.... I am praying!!!!!!!

I will get plastics eventually but if I have to choose it will be the apron. It is large but really nowhere as big as my tummy was before surgery. That is more of a concern for aging and being independent in my later years.

Daily skin therapy - baths with glycerin are good - dry brushing and such that stimulates the skin will help too. a MODERATE daily lotion therapy will help.

Drink your Water, drink, drink - avoid alcohol. Cigarettes are no good either!

Accupuncture may help this - I am lookin ginto a few reports that it helps the subcutaneous blood flow, which helps the lipids and such dissolve, which triggers the skin to "recede" blah, blah - like I said, I have not confirmed this!

I started at 315...way bigger then you...of course I am tall (5'9") so it streched out good. I dont have any hanging skin...you can check out my pictures on my profile. my belly is loose...but it was like that after I lost the weight from pregnancy's.....my tummy got streched to hell from my babies. my arms are fine....my legs are great (in fact I can wear a mini skirt now and it doesnt look bad!) I think it has to do with genetics, age, nutrition, and luck! I am gonna have a Tummy Tuck in 30 more pounds to get rid of it....I cant wait! :)

good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
