Not Exercising Yet....

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and I haven't started working out yet because these dizzy spells are killing me! I know I'm not getting enough calories in yet to get in a treadmill without passing out.. And I was looking forward to getting into a routine. I switched my Protein Drink to Isopure to try and get more Protein in, but I haven't felt the effects yet. I work full time as a nurse and when I'm busy running around I sometimes have to stop and sit down for a minute...

I don't know if anyone else experienced this.. I guess I'm just frustrated... I told my surgeon and he said to make sure I eat more often because my sugar might be dropping (I am not a diabetic).. And I try to but I still cannot take in a lot at once. I never thought I would see the day when I wasn't hungry lol

It will get easier as you progress through the stages and as the swelling in your sleeve goes down. I was going to suggest that you start slow with some walking, but you probably walk more as a nurse than I do on a daily basis NOW.

Don't push yourself super hard. Gradually add in the workouts as your stabilize. Once you're back on solid food and have clearance from your surgeon (about 6-8 weeks), then you can increase your workouts.

I'm 3 months out today and I still don't "exercise". I take care of my house and kids the best that I can. I still stay weak and dizzy all of the time. My calorie intake is still around 600. I just cannot eat. I hope it gets better soon.

My struggle is getting in enough fluids. When I was getting dehydrated, I got really dizzy. When I get up in the AM, I get a little dizzy. Can you be somewhat dehydrated? Trying uping your Water intake. You might be surprised. ;) I struggle everyday with Fluid intake. But I have to do it, or else suffer the consequences. ;)

yes, the Fluid intake can affect the blood pressure, and when you have dips in blood pressure you can have dizzy spells.....im sure you know this as a nurse...... but as a patient it can be a little scary to think that it will never go away. I know you must be running around taking care of patients, and it can get hard to remember to hydrate yourself....believe me I KNOW! lol

just make sure to take a sip everytime you pass by your station! :) good luck

dont worry about not getting in exercise until you feel up to it. I am sure that you running around on the job is burning all the calories you are eating in a day anyways. you will know when you can handle more :D

I still sometimes feel weak and dizzy...I am seven weeks out. I am going to Pilates tonight, and I was planning on a pump-it up class tomorrow morning, but I will see how Pilates goes. I need to build back my stamina...it's too hot to walk already. So I will have to try the treadmill.

Take your time and give yourself time to heal. Also remember that exercise is not always done on the threadmill or in the gym. Chasing after the kids, cleaning the house, cooking, vacuming, cleaning the kitchen, making the beds, walking up and down the stairs, walking the dog, etc is also exercise.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
