Big topic but I can just tell you for me' date=' I was 4 months out before I noticed the Hair loss and then I was freaking out; didn't want to comb it, didn't want to wash it, started looking for wigs, and was generally pissed. I had been taking Biotin for months; then on the advice of my Naturapath Dr. I started taking Luminous and bought some Shampoo with Biotin in it made for thinning hair. Not sure what did the trick, but the important thing is that the period of it being super fragile was only about 2 weeks. I am now 6 months post op and my hair is starting to return to normal. I haven't dyed it since a month before surgery and am thinking I may take the leap here soon to hide some of the gray coming in. Here I am finally looking younger because of my weight loss, I don't want gray hair getting in my way!!!![/quote']

What is luminous?

I've had Hair loss for a few years now before surgery, so I'm losing it now, I'm not sure if it's due to the surgery or just regular how it's been for a few years. I should have done to the doctor about it last year when I actually had insurance. I always thought it was because I had PCOS (I have the thinning hair symptoms, facial hair, weight, dark skin Patches, and I didn't have a period, I've had one regular now since surgery) but when I had my labs done by my PCP last year they said I didn't have PCOS, so I have no idea what's going on lol. Anyways I'm willing to try anything that might help, I've just been taking Biotin.< /p>

Sorry for any typos, I'm on my phone.

Have you had your thyroid checked?

I thought I didnt, but I was mentioning this to my mom earlier (shes a RN) and she told me she said she remembered I did have it checked out and they said it was fine (she has thyroid issues and is on medication) Im thinking about maybe getting it checked out again, I dont have insurance so I hope it doesnt cost to much.

Im going to head to Better Health later and get some of that BioSil, from the reviews I read online it seems to work? Its worth a try, I think its only about $20, I'll let you all know how it works out for me, I know things work differently for people.

I have lost more than half my hair - which thank g-d was thick to start with. I am almost a year out, have reached my goal and an still loing hair. I am thinking of hair extension just to make it thicker looking.

Feeling a little vain though, maybe I shouldn't!

I have been losing hair at a very slow rate for five months....I take Biotin and use Nioxin Shampoo, however, I have never been able to get in the recommended 60-80 gr. of Protein a day. So my question is....will my hair continue to fall out until I DO get that much protein in OR will my body EVENTUALLY adjust to my new diet? I'm 10 months post-op....and honestly it's not severe Hair loss, only I can tell, but sometimes I wonder how I can possibly have any hair, having been losing for FIVE MONTHS!!

It's so upsetting...I wonder if this continues, people will start noticing and that makes me panic!!

Any ideas??

The regular use of extensions causes hair breakage and loss. If you're worried about your hair looking thin, you're better off cutting it short.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
