I went to pureed and had to go back to liquids. Just to uncomfortable...anyway I noticed when I was drinking my Water today that without realizing it I wasn't sipping I was taking pretty big drinks. Was anyone told to always sip or at some point were you told you can drink normal...I just kind of freaked out today. Like I said I have no problems getting fluids down...i just kind of stopped sipping somewhere :)

I'm 16 months post-op and somewhere I stopped sipping and started drinking. I can't glug down more than about three mouthfuls at a time, but they are certainly not sips. It's one of the ways I started to look "normal" around people who don't know I had surgery.

I am 3 weeks post op and I have had a few gulping faux pas. During week 1, it hurt going down, Yesterday, I took a gulp and it was just a little uncomfortable.

While it may never be advisable to chug Water, you definitely get to a point where you don't have to carefully sip anymore. I think by about 5 or 6 months out, I was drinking water pretty much like I did before surgery. Not chugging, but drinking pretty big gulps sometimes. As long as I had not eaten recently, I did fine with bigger gulps at that point.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
