To be banded 8/21 Emotional wreck

Recommended Posts

I think it is perfectly normal to be nervous about it. It is surgery, and life altering, after all. You are making a big change and leaving one of your best friends behind (food).

Yes, there are risks, but they are pretty small. The informed consent form? That is usual and customary for everything they do. I even had to sign one of those when I had my colonoscopy.

Most of us went through the *what do I think I am doing* stage, and the *I should just try harder* stage. I kept thinking about how many failures I've had. I just didn't want to have yet another one. I looked at this as my last chance. I still have a few more years to go and I wanted to enjoy all of them.

I have no regrets.

That pre-op consent says all the bad stuff even if all they are doing is taking a skin biopsy. Remember we live in a lsue happy society where people win lawsuits for hot coffee and being fat from fast food. Its just so they are covered that you were aware that even with odds of 1:100,000 it could hypothetically happen. Dont worry about the paperwork. concentrate on the positive of getting it done and getting well!! There are thousands that cant get as far as you have. Be thrilled!!

When I signed my informed consent, I wrote on the bottom "Remember, just because I gave you permission to kill me doesn't mean I want you to!" :)

I am going in on Friday 8/25/06 to have my band put on. I know exactly how you feel!!!! I kept telling the pre-op nurse on friday that I don't care what it takes, just DO NOT let me die on that table! I wish I hd my forms to fill out again I would have used your tag line at the bottom of mine!!!LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
