Hi Suzie!

I am new to this particular board but am a 4 year Veteran and came back because I needed a boost of support to keep the regain under control...

You are about to do the best thing you have ever done for yourself. Don't let anybody, not even yourself tell you differently. You are worth this. Here are the top 5 things you need to know:

1. You won't die on the table - the Doctor has as much interest in keeping his malpractice insurance rates down as you do to live

2. Yes you will eat differently the rest of your life - deal with it. I promise it will be normal in 6 months.

3. Whatever made you overeat isn't "cured" with surgery - emotional work continues

4. You will have the best wild ride ever for the first year - focus on the good parts of that

5. Your boobs will deflate. Sorry girlfriend, it is just the reality. The upside is you will be buying AWESOME new undergear that will left the girls back to where they belong.

Hang tough and stick around...

I have kind of been through this experience before, I had the gastric band and lost 7 1/2 stone, but my stomach distended and I has to get it removed so all the weight went back. So I am getting this op now. I am looking forward to getting back into some of my old clothes.

This is a much bigger op though. How long we're people in hospital with their sleeve op?

Thank you all for your friendly welcome and advice. I look forward to your support and friendship x

I was apparently the first person ever to be released the same day. (My one claim to fame in this world)

I had a flawless experience. In at 7am for the surgery - woke up sometime later with the bed spins, they gave me some meds and I was up again and back at my hotel by 3pm that day. The next morning I came back for a quick top up of my fluids in an IV and we drove the three hours home by lunchtime.

I never even needed so much as a Tylenol from when I got home. Seriously - I can't imagine an easier thing. I had no complications, and it was faster recovery than my gall bladder 8 years ago.

I went back to work after two weeks, but could easily have done it in one because I have a desk job. The only thing was that I needed a nap every afternoon for about 3 months... so that was hard - so tired.

I wish my experience on everybody, but I know it isn't always like that for everybody.

The surgeon reckons I will be in for 3 days and the nurse said 5 days I will be in hospital for. I have a desk job too and they are talking about any where between 2-6 weeks off. Luckily I will be on full pay.

I just feel that I am getting conflicting messages from the hospital. I have no idea what I am supposed to eat/drink when I get home so I can't stock up. I live by myself so won't be able to go shopping as apparently I can't drive for 6 weeks.

There just seems a lack of information from my hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
