A Little Something Different For Your Shake!

Recommended Posts

I'm not, nor have I ever been, a huge fan of Protein Shakes. However, I've been doing quite well on my pre-op diet and have actually found a few I like. The other day (prior to pre-op) I found a recipe on pinterest for a copycat version for Wendy's Frosty. This morning I adapted it to my Protein shake. I used my normal shake powder (I'm using up a bag of Visalus I already had), about 1/4 cup of ice, 1/2 - 1 Cup of Milk (depending how thick or how much shake you want to make), 2 tablespoons of sugar free, fat free chocolate pudding mix, 2 tablespoons of cool whip (Sugar free), a dash of vanilla flavoring (about a tsp). Just chunk it all in the blender and oila! It is FABULOUS!!!!!!

Oh... after a few delicious sips, I noticed a lone, small, banana on the bar that I knew would soon ruin, so I chopped it up and put it in the shake and blended again. Yummo McYummerson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Shelley,

Congratulations on pushing through the Protein Yuck of pre-surgery. I thought it might be useful to post a few tips for you from my experience if you are interested.

1. It is almost a given that your tastes will change quite dramatically in the first weeks and months after surgery. Don't load up on the powder you like now because you may hate it after.

2. Milk may work at the moment, but you may not find it that useful in shakes after. It may cause you to feel yucky, and if you are trying to get in your daily recommended volume of liquid, Water based shakes may be more palatable for you.

3. Bananas are carb bombs - not all fruit is good.

4. Try this recipe: 20 oz of Water with ice in a shaker bottle, add a scoop of Breezer or nectar brand peach flavoured shake and a matching peach crystal lite packet. See how that works for you. I have had one of those or something similar every morning for over 4 years. Never could do milk, or the chocolate/vanilla rich chaulky shakes, they caused nausea - so experimenting with flavours is the best way to find what you can stick to.

WIshing you the best from deep on the other side!

What is breezer? I haven't bought a bunch of anything. My boyfriend had gastric bypass a few yrs ago so he drinks Protein Shakes as well. Where do you find the breezer stuff?

I love the nectar Brand shakes, but their availability in my area is hit and miss, so my go to Protein is Isowhey Breezer

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
