Guess I've Hit The Dreaded Stall Already

Recommended Posts

I guess this is it. I'm now 19 days post op n haven't lost n e thing since 16 days post op. I've only lost 15 lbs post op n 23 lbs overall. Don't think my doc's gonna b too happy as he was disappointed n my 9 lb loss at 10 days post op. Sad face today!

Your doctor was sad about 9 pounds in 10 days?!?!??! WTH???

OK, let me tell you something... a week after surgery, I was still the same weight as the day of surgery. I was so pumped full of fluids in the hospital that I came home weighing more than when I went in! So it wasn't until a week after surgery that I even finally began to lose weight. I definitely hadn't lost 9 lbs in the first 10 days.

I think some surgeons try these tactics to "motivate" patients to lose weight and stick with the plan. The reality is that you've lost 15 lbs in 19 days since surgery, and that is REALLY great! Stalls do happen. They suck. I had a three week stall early out from surgery, even though I was following all the rules. You just gotta keep on working through them.

You are doing great! Hang in there!

Keep calm and carry on. Make a deal with yourself - no scale for 4 days.

Stalls are nothing.... just dust in the wind Chell it is the long haul that matters.

Just remember poo weight is huge in this stage. It will be a while before you can count on your digestive system again. I remember having stalls that resolved themselves with stool softener. :)

Thx Pennie n mammabear. I gotta admit I felt a little defeated at my first post op dr's appt when he said most of his patients would have lost 20 lbs post op. I think psychologically that messed me up a little. In some way I feel like 15 lbs in 19 days is not enough. On the other hand I know this is irrational. Damn doctor has messed my head up. Lol

Don't let him get to you. I had only lost 15 pounds at my one month check in. They told me that was half a pound a day average which was a good safe way to lose. I don't want super saggy hanging skin all over so I'll take my half a pound a day and Celebrate that those are pounds I won't ever see again!

Cheer up! At 18 days I had only lost 16 lbs and then I didn't lose anymore until I was 6 weeks post-op. I then lost 6 lbs. I was getting in all of my Protein & fluids in by 2 weeks. You might have stalls, but keep eating & drinking right & they will break:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
