I'm confused. My whey Protein only has 1.5 gm. of fat and 2 gm. of carbs, that isn't much at all. Right now all I am allowed to drink is 3 Protein shakes per day with clear liquids in between, so I don't have much of a choice.

No, your's sounds good. Low fat, low carbs...that means the calories have to be low too. I was commenting on someone who was drinking 11grams of fat and 11 carbs!! Yikes! And, as long as its lower in sodium than others, your okay.

You aren't on a clear liquid diet are you? (can't be if you are drinking shakes)

I was wondering...why are you not eating jell-o or broth to supplement?

I was even told to do sugar-free ice pops. I am confused as to whether you are on clear liquids or full liquids.:cry

I survived yesterday! :clap2: Gas pain was pretty bad and the liquid codine tastes gross. Today very sore if moving. Glad to be on the banded side now.

I was banded on Sept. 12th, so I'm 4 days post-op. My dr. says 3 4oz. Protein shakes per day and in between meals clear liquids only, i.e., broth, sf. Jello, sf. ice pops., diet snapple, crystal lite. That the same diet I was on 2 weeks pre-op. Honestly, I can't even choke down the 3 Protein drinks per day, I feel very full. I know that will end soon though. Also, my whey Protein is 140 calories, 2g. fat, 95 mg. sodium, 60 mg. cholesterol, 2 g. carbs., 1g. sugar, and 27 g. protien. I am going to look for that Isopure stuff that you are talking about for when I am on solids and mushies. For anyone that is interested, I just noticed a great recipe on the back of this whey protein bag. It's for a creamsicle smoothie:

8 ouces of orange juice

1 scoop vanilla SportPharma Whey Protein powder

1 Ripe banana

3-4 Ice Cubes

Blend until smooth.

Holy cow! You were on that diet 2 weeks pre-op!!!! I only have to do 1 day...i thougth I was gonna have to do 2 weeks too after reading the boards, Hubby said, you do that for 2 weeks and you won't need the surgery!!

Your Protein shake sounds good. I talked to a few people a few weeks ago who were doing body building shakes (not yours) and they couldn't figure out why the scale wasn't moving. Yours is nice and low in the bad stuff.

That smoothie sounds good. I plan on using my Juicer alot when I am off clear liquids. My mom and sis are the gadget queen and princess, I couldn't be bothered. But I do have two and luckily they will both come in handy for me!! The Magic Bullet and the Jack LaLanne Juicer.

11 days till banding...can't wait. Here in NJ I had to go to "Bariatric Bootcamp" got a pillow for my stomach, a nice huge tote (like LL Bean's) and a little contraption to practice on to keep my lungs clear. Tour of the hospital, had to try out the bed (they made you do it) and saw everywhere you will be in the hosp and gave you the nitty gritty details of the surgery. At the dieticians office she made us try the liquid Vitamins, liquid Calcium, chewable vitamins, powdered protein Soup, and protein pudding made from the shake mix (chocolate). Did your doc make you do all that too?

Had my surgery yesterday!!! home by 7pm. feeling pretty good. got up did a 20min walk.

I am having surgery Wednesday, go for my pre op Tuesday. I am SUPER nervous!!!!!

I am also on only liquids, and have been for 3 weeks. Talk about a month in HELL!!! LOL Believe me it's not that bad. It just sucks when I am cooking for my family, it is so hard not to nibble.

Yes, it will be 4 weeks total on clear liquids and 3 shakes a day. I think doing the 2 weeks liquid before really helped my stomach shrink and prepare me for the road ahead. As far as all the other things, no. Basically, I went to a WLS Seminar for about 3 hours, after that I met with the surgeon, went to a 2 hour nutrition seminar and then met with the psychologist. I didn't meet with the surgeon again until 2 weeks before the surgery date (1 week for me because of Hurricane Ernesto). Basically, it's like an assembly line production over there, but my surgeon was excellent and I have complete faith in him. I guess I was supposed to get all I needed from the seminars and the books they sent me home with because when I checked out of the hospital, I left with no instructions, just what was in the book they gave me pre-surgery. At the nutrition seminar they did give us a bag with some samples in it, but I never tried any. I still have them though.

Bettina: You definitely did not come off as a know-it-all to me. I appreciate every bit of info you are willing to share. I am very much into starting my life anew with a completely different focus - on health and beauty. And I have a lot to learn. I have indeed been the typical woman trying to raise her family, keep her husband happy, and thinking of myself as selfish if I spend too much time or money on myself. My role model mother was famous for neglecting herself and focusing on others' needs.

My mother died at early of breast cancer. She had been working very hard to take care of my dad who had been going through a rough illness. She raised 4 of us and we knew she was the one person our whole lives who we could count on for anything. And so, we always asked for her help even as adults. She was always there for all of us. It completely wore her out. My dad lived on to retire in Florida and have a full life.

The lesson I'm trying to learn is one of balance, but also that taking care of myself - even first sometimes - isn't necessarily selfish. It's smart for not only my own health, but also for my kids and husband. What are they going to do if I continue to be MO and have the health issues my mom had? Well I can tell you for sure that the grief they would feel to lose me early like my mom, is very tough to endure.

I don't mean to get morbid. Really I don't. I am just going through a huge transition in my life. I'm glomming on to any help I can get to muster the strength to get myself healthy and happy and more beautiful. My children are totally behind me, as is my DH. And I don't want to let myself, or them, down.

So I sincerely appreciate anything you or anyone here can tell me to help me with some of the answers and even some of the questions!

I just wish you lived near me and I could hire you to help me with the physical aspects of what I need! Going to a place where everyone seems grossed out at the shape I'm in, isn't too appealing. That's why we're building an exercise pool. If you have any suggestions about that, I'm sure open to suggestion. It should be completed about a week after I'm to be given the go-ahead to swim. Gotcha, yeah another bodybuilding supplement. I thought you were on the liquid bottled Protein. The liquid only has 80 mg of sodium instead of the 320 mg that the powder has. The nice thing about the bottled stuff is that you can replace the cold Water in jell-o mix, with the isopure...get your Protein and it tastes better. And then you don't feel so much like you are on total liquids...and the jell-o has the hair growing benefit -which will in handy when the hair starts to fall out. (ugh)

This is a bodybuilding supplement? I'm so confused!:faint:

OMG!!! I found my Protein heaven.:dance: I mixed 12oz of crystal light strawberry kiwi flavor (my favorite) with 3 scoops beneprotein for a 75 cal, 18 gm Protein Drink that tastes EXACTLY like my original crystal light. When my DH gets home I'm gonna make him do a taste test to see if he can tell the difference.

You know...they should make beneprotein in the little single serve powder tubes like crystal light comes in, and that would be the easiest thing to travel with. I just might have to write them a letter and suggest that.

BTW...have you checked out all the different dancing bananas??? In particular banane56. LOL

Yep- this is like starting out with a virgin tummy and vessels. Im walking the good/clean side. I did not go thru the pain, $$, to throw it all away. It makes me sad to read the people who are eating fast food, drinking heavily and not conforming.

My surgeon would have MY HEAD if I did not change my habits- There would be no fills and certainly no sympathy from him. I feel like im ahead of the game if I stay on the good side then Im in control of me.!! My tummy and nutrition restart was 9/14/06. :clap2:

My and the surgeons short term goal is healing not necessarily wt loss- that will be a bonus. Just the change in habits from pre-post will result in a nice loss. IMHO there is an over focus on severly lowering calories ,carbs and Proteins too soon post-op. This is when my body needs it the most per my surgeon. Healing cannot take place in a timely fashion if nutrients are inadequate. "There is plenty of time for wt loss- it did not happen overnight." Post op Im allowed 1200 cal 60-80gm Protein, 20%fat. Cuts back after 6-8 weeks if that proves not to be a loss level.

Certainly NOT MEANT to be preaching. Just the view that was taught to me in nutrition classes and WLS classes.

I have the Unjury packets. I just want the little tube packets that are easier to carry around and pour into Water bottles. The packets will work in the meantime though.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...
