September Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I have a September 20 surgery date. I need to lose 12 lbs before my final consult with the surgeon on 9/11. I'm so glad I'm done with all the pre-op testing, I started LAST OCTOBER!

I'm looking forward to a thinner Christmas.

My surgery date is scheduled for September 20th..I have had all my required appointments, I am just waiting on the insurance approval, which is the worst feeling in the world.

I will be banded at Brigham and Womens hospital.

BAD NEWS... or at least in my opinion. I had my pscy visit this morning. I have to keep a food list and try to obstain per my coffee and soda adictions. SO NOW I have to have a couple FU visits. Wondering if its real concern or I just have great insurance. (Just venting... this thing just keeps dragging on.... ) So NOW I am probably not a Sept but an OCTOBER!

Hello all,

I hope to be in this club soon. All I have left is my psche evaluation on 8-30. I have my pre-op appointment on 8-31. Not too sure what happens at this appointment since I have all my other stuff done. They say I will get my date on this day, but is this also when I start on liquids? That is going to truly be the biggest challenge for me ever. Just a few questions I have from those who might know. How long until you were able to get back to work? How did you get through the liquid diet? Does lettuce and watermelon count, mostly Water, right?

Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Hi Want2lose,

My insurance is BC/BS Anthem of NH. I don't think anything was submitted yet as I had my last appt last week, the psych appointment. I hate the waiting....and the bad news in the mailbox...which I hope does not happen..

I dont' have to go on the pre-op liquid diet because my weight/BMI is low, its 35.3..so I can't go below that.

If anyone has BC/BS Anthem of NH, please let me know how it was dealing with them.

Thanks!!

I have CareFirst, Blue Choice. When I 1st called the insurance co, they told me my policy only covered bypass, not lapband. I was completely depressed, but thanks to LBT, I was encouraged to schedule a consultation and see what happens. I already had pysician supervised weight loss programs, since I have been on & off phentermine forever. I also have been attending WW since November. I went to my 1st appointment with records in hand, and a very detailed 10 year weight loss history. While I HATE journaling what I eat, I have always journaled my weight and measurements. At the start of every diet I would log my stats, and update it every few weeks, until I quit that diet and started gaining. This made it real easy for me to re-create my history. 4 days later I had my insurance approval. I hope all my pre-op goes smoothly this week. I've got it all crammed into 2 days, so I am going to be one tired puppy come friday.

Every Dr. is different, and it also seams to have to do with you BMI. Some Dr's don't do a pre-op diet, some do liquids for 2 weeks, some for 2 days. I have also read that some are no carbs for a period of time.

I am a very picky eater, and am scared of the liquid diet too. I meet with the nutritionist on Thursday, and am hoping for some creative solutions then.

Hi ya'll from Texas! I am scheduled AGAIN for Sept 8th. My orginal surgery date was August 11th. However, my doctor became ill and had to reschedule all his surgerys for awhile. So It's back on again now for the 8th! I am getting excited again. It will be here before I know it! Man after waiting 9 months and then having to wait a whole month more, this last few weeks have just been creeping by. Anyway I will keep all you Sept. folks in my thoughts! Good Luck everyone!

How frustrating! I gave up soda for lent this year, and did pretty good. I must admit though, since I know it is about to leave my life permanantly, I am drinking 4-6 cans of diet coke a day right now. I don't even like it that much, but I just can't stop.

I'll keep you on our Sept list for now. I hope you get a date soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
