Tami: I am so proud of you! Way to go! What a great accomplishment. I'm going to change up what I'm doing. How hard is the bike class? Do you wear padded shorts so your bottom doesn't hurt? Could you do it the first time that you went? I'm just wondering if I could do it. I handle Water aerobics well, it's probably getting to easy. I guess that I need to get over my fear of going to a personal trainer and just do it! Also, on your diet, do you count protien, carbs and calories and if you do, how do they break down for you? Thanks, for the help. I think it's helpful to learn from some one who is successful. Again, congratulations!

Oh, I forgot to ask. first of all I need to buy a lap top. any suggestions. my hubby doesn't want mac. but we don't have a clue. we are using it to do family history. now that brings me back to the other question. I am flying into Atlanta, going to waynesboro, augusta, and Columbia SC. from there we are driving to DC. besides staying in a library all day we want to see some history.. anyone live or been in this area of south. what should be see? sandy

sandra: The Smithsonian! My favorite is the American History Museum. Also the Air and Space Museum is great. Any of the Smithsonian museums. All of the monuments or at least the Washington and Lincoln monuments. Drive by the White House. If you have time Old Town Alexandria is fun. Georgetown provides upscale dining and shopping with beautiful historic homes. The Washington Zoo is great. There is a wonderful Marine museum. You could spend a week and not see everything. If you've never been, just driving around town and seeing our beautiful Capitol is fantastic. It will make you feel very patriotic. Have a great trip!

Thanks, Karey. I'm sorry I haven't responded before today. I didn't realize that I only get one email response until the next time I visit the forum!

I have to say that I did sort of work up to the spinning. I started out with the elliptical and recumbant bikes for about 2 months, gradually increasing the time and intensity. It was still a big step for me to try the spinning, because I envisioned that being for "elite" athletes. But, there are really all kinds of people who take the classes at my gym. If you're interested in trying it, talk to the instructor first, and let her know you're new at it. She might recommend a padded gel seat cover, or padded shorts. I never used them, and it really only took 2-3 classes until my bottom was used to the saddle. My daughter took the class once, and bruised her bottom either from being improperly positioned on the bike or from bouncing back to the seat too hard after a climb (when you stand up while peddling). Unfortunately, she never went back.

Whatever you do, I really think it's important to switch things up now and then. This past week I took a "group power" class, which is group weight training with barbells to music. I thought I was in pretty good shape because of the cybex training I've been doing in addition to the spinning, but that class tore me up! (In a good way, sore muscles = muscle growth!)

A personal trainer is a great way to go. I worked with one twice a week for 4-5 months several years ago. It really helped me with consistency (because I had an appointment to keep), plus helped me to learn correct form, and of course to push me beyond my "comfort level".

I eat a lot, though. Plenty of Protein, veggies, and some starches. I write down what I eat on my OH blog, but I don't count up calories, etc., all the time. Once in a while I log it into SparkPeople.com just to see if I'm still on track for 1200-1400 cal per day, and 60- 70g. or so protein a day. Lately I've been drinking too much, though. Before the band I might drink alcohol 2-3 nights a week. Then, after surgery I was down to once every few weeks. I'm starting to slip into old, bad habits, and I seriously have got to nip this in the bud before it starts showing up on the scale.

And don't ask what I had for Mother's Day dinner. Let's just say I'm *not* looking forward to getting on the scale tomorrow morning!

If you have the opportunity to visit Savannah, GA, I'd say go for that! I have no idea if that's at all close to where you'll be. We were passing near Savannah several years ago, and decided to take a couple of hours to visit. We stopped by a visitor's center and picked up some information, including some maps that had directions for a driving tour. I just loved that city. It has real old world charm, with the antebellum homes and all the trees dripping with Spanish moss. Lovely.

Down one pound this week to 182. Tami, you are my inspiration! MimIn, you rock too!

I'm still running three times a week but finding a day/night to do it under 80 degrees outside is getting tough down here in Texas!

I have no restriction but the last time I went to the doctor's he said I was losing weight still and didn't want to give any more fills. I was VERY sensitive too and couldn't tolerate .5 cc saline. I'll just keep plugging along. Meanwhile the occasional flour tortilla and piece of bread is lovely. Great work to all!

Tami- Thanks for exercise advise. I just started doing the elliptical and can handle it pretty good. I think I might try a group weight class. I have been doing the bowflex and like weight training. I'm also going to get the "Body Bugg" in a few weeks. I think it will be very motivating. I see the nutrionist tomorrow and hope that she will have some words of wisdom. I meet my new doctor (old one left town) on Wednesday and may get a fill. We will see. scales didn't move this week, but I have to say that I wasn't very good on Saturday or Sunday== using Mother's Day as an excuse. Though I did do an extra session of weight lifting, elliptical and Water aerobics to make up for the key lime pie. I am getting frustrated and I am hungry. I am increasing my exercise, but I need more. I feel like I've been on a diet since September and I'm a little burned out. Even though I know that these are good life style habits and I'm happy about all that, I just don't like feeling hungry. I guess I've whined long enough.

Computers are my passion so here's are my suggestions...

Depending on what you will use it for, if it's just general research and taking data a pentium D processor will do you just fine with atleast 512mb or ram but would suggest 1gb. If you are going to (or foresee it anywhere in the future) do any kind of photos, editing etc I would suggest looking into atleast a centrino processor or p4. I am an intel gal but AMD is also very good and can be cheaper.

As far as manufacturers for the general consumer I like Gateway laptops, HP and Sony. Sony IMO is the best but they are always leaps and bounds more expensive then the rest. Gateway is middle of the road quality but generally cheaper and well there is e-machine, I'm not a fan but I guess they are getting better now that gateway bought them up.

Stay away from Dell - their support is terrible, warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on and you will never get a person on the phone you can understand.

Best Buy has the best warranty options down to a swap out policy (costs more). I can't speak to any of the other major electronics retailers but I did work for Best Buy in the Computer dept for longer than I care to admit:)

I am down 2lbs this week. Today I am officially no longer overweight, I am now "normal" according to my BMI. I never thought I'd see this day! I also never imagined I would get into the 160s, 7.5 months ago it seemed impossible and today it is surreal.

We went to Holland Michigan to meet up with Jamie's grandparents. When we were pulling up Loretta had a confused look on her face and started laughing when I gave her a hug. She didn't recognize me and thought Jamie was running around with a new gal, said that the only thing that gave it away was my smile, lol.

Hey everyone, I've missed you. Remember me? The first September bandster to slip my band?!??!? Well, I'm back and on track. I see all of you are doing great! OMG!!! Some of you are in spitting range of your goal! It took longer than expected (6 weeks not 3) to find out that my band fixed itself. The un-fill did the trick! But I've been kinda down in the dumps since it slipped. I'm just now getting back on track, I have another fill scheduled for Thursday. I'm taking it slow, kinda because I'm scared to slip it again, and because I did a lot of soul searching in the 6 weeks I was waiting to see if I was gonna loose my band, and I came to the conclusion that this is my band, it will be mine for life and I don't need to hurry. I'd like to hurry, but that's how I got into trouble in the first place. So slow and steady is my new speed. I hope you all will welcome me back with open arms. It looks like I've missed a lot. I don't even recognize this place anymore. Well, hope all is well with you guys. Take care.
