Diane: Thanks for your input and positive outlook. It helps to hear these things and try and remember all the good things about our bands. We also need to remember that we are just people and people make mistakes. Always have since Adam and Eve. We are learning and that is all we can do. Pick ourselves up and keep going.

Sandy- I'd be discouraged too, but now is the time to get back with your program. Don't hurt yourself any further. I know that I've said that to myself before. Why didn't I stop myself when I gained a few pounds instead of giving up. You can do it. You have been doing it! Keep checking in here, let us help you. Go back to your doctor and get some support. Ask your family for support. Think about what in your environment could be eliminated to make it easier to make good choices. Sandy you've lost quite a bit, please don't be discouraged!

Bjean: A trainer?! I am impressed. Way to go! Remember when your knees couldn't do anything? Way to go. You're doing great! Forty pounds is a small child. What is your trainer having you do? Tell me more!

Thanks, I really appreciate your remarks. It does help to put things in perspective. I have a support group at my doc but it is 45 miles away and I haven't gone since the first required 3 months. I need to do that.. I also need to go back to exercising. I will come back and quite sabatoging my self.. :kiss2::confused:

Sandra, I know its hard, I really do. My food today consisted of 1-Low Carb Slimfast, 3/4 cup mixed nuts, 1-asian salad with LOTS of nuts & Feta cheese, 2-3 ounces of chicken with a cream sauce, All sounds pretty good, pretty healthy. But then I topped it off with 4 balls of frozen chocolate chip cookie dough. And over the weekend it was homemade soft cream cheese wedding mints. Whipped it up while DH was out just so I could eat it.

I know that my current weight is great and everyone says I look good but it is still hard not to beat myself up when I make these same bad choices over & over. I too have a hard time thinking about where I could be now if only I stopped.

My point, not to brag, but do look at where I am now. And that was without being perfect then or now. Instead I've lost in spurts. There was that initial rush of weightloss after the band then its come in 2-5 pound burst over a week's time then no weight loss for long periods. It very frustrating, I don't think there has been more than a few days in the last 2 years I haven't felt like I was either on the brink in not already a failure at this whole band thing. But then it hits me I've come from a size 24/26 to a 10, I repeat a 10, one that my friends are even saying is starting to look a bit baggy! Then if I'm not carefull I start to feeling guilty about being depressed over not losing weight.

SCREWED UP!!! Aren't I?

Hang in there, and you too will get there eventually.

Hi all.

Tomorrow I go in for my one year check up. I can't wait, as of last week I was at 101 lbs lost. This is such a proud moment in my life. I only have about 30-80 pounds left to lose. I wont' know how much until I get down to where I feel comfortable.

I hope all is well with the rest of you!!

Sandra and The Ghost... wow, you can't imagine how much it means to me to read your posts. I can so identify!!! What a rollercoaster!

I try to remember what the physiologist said to me when she weighed me and took my measurments when I had lost 35 lbs. and 35 inches. She said I had lost a small person. And she said that we people who struggle with weight are way too hard on ourselves. (I was apologizing because I hadn't lost more!) She says that we need to focus on our triumphs not our failures.

Gosh that's hard to do. I've failed so miserably in the past and after so many failed diets, the disappointed and discouraged feelings have become a lifestyle. Very, very hard to break out of that mindset. And very, very hard to keep from eating those things that make us feel so darned good. (Even though it's temporary, it's a kind of high.)

kareyquilts: You're such a sweetheart to remember my knees. I am thrilled that I can participate in physical exercise now. The trainer only sees me once a week, but she is kicking my butt. They wouldn't have been difficult exercises a few years ago and it's a little embarrassing that I can't do harder exercises for a longer period of time, but everything I do to improve my muscle tone and cardio is stuff I haven't been able to do for years. So thank you for your kind words and support! I really do appreciate it!

I am so thrilled for your fabulous success! And you continue to help those of us who are struggling. You're a real winner!

Happy Bandiversary to me:) I can't believe that today marks one year! A year ago at this very moment I was laying in a bed drugged off me arse saying "dood I hope to hell this was worth it" and a year later I can say it was worth every penny, pain and tear!

TexRose: Hope your surgery went well!

Mimin: Please keep us informed on your lower body lift. 20 more pounds and I'm going to get one! Are you going to start a separate thread?

Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I've been very busy! I'm a grandmother now. My son had a little boy 2 weeks agon and I've been nursing the momma and helping out. It's so exciting. I'm in love. I'm going to try and attach a picture: Okay, I will have to go to photobucket and size it and then I'll attach a picture of the cutest little baby ever!

Kareyquilts: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I remember when you told us your son was expecting his first. What a thrill! I am sure he is the cutest little thing on this earth. I am very happy for you all.

I finally relented and had an un-fill. Wow. I can't believe it. I am no longer hungry constantly and on the prowl for something I can eat and keep down. The very day of the unfill (last Thursday) I was better. I can't believe I wasted so much time by not getting an unfill sooner! The doctor's surgical nurse and the dietician both tried to tell me but I just couldn't get it through my head that tigher doesn't mean quicker weight loss. In fact, it can mean the opposite! And the doc told me that I was just asking for trouble. He showed me pictures of an enlarged esophogus from a person who had too must restriction. I am a believer now!! We really should not be hungry all the time and we shouldn't be PB'ing all the time!

I've already lost a pound and a half just since Thursday. I feel really dumb to have gone through all that for months!!! :phanvan

BJean how many fills have you had and how much is in your band before the unfill and after. Just curious.

Val- I was banded Sept. 11 '06, so it's been a year. I have had approximately 8 fills. I was at 3.2 in a 4. band and after the unfill, I have 2.6.

I lost 40 lbs in the first 5 or 6 months. And it was easy! After that it has been: lose 3 to 5 lbs., gain 3 to 5 lbs. Until I finally stopped moving the bar on the scale at all. Then I gained a couple of pounds. That was the last straw. Plus the fact that I was so hungry and preoccupied with food all the time it was making me crazy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
