Dallasmist...that is awesome! You must feel terrific!

I will consider a Tummy Tuck in a couple of years....probably will get the girls lifted too. Haven't done any further research though.

I would like to know....if I have a tattoo on one of the girls....a fairly big one...should I have it removed before or after the surgery? I don't think I can (or want) to keep it...just not sure how much would get cut off, etc. Does anyone out there know?

Dallasmist: Congrats on your success!!! I have issues with loose skin and am planning on having a full lowerbody lift in October. "They" say wait but like you I want my killer body now and I have to much sag for my liking and I can't wait, I want to be sporting the string bikini next summer;) My skin could be worse but I am tired of having hang ups with my body!

Lisalee: I would love to be a muscular 8, right now I'm a soft 8 ;) I have a lower back tattoo (aka tramp stamp) and my surgeon said that I will lose most of it with the surgery and will be having the remainder removed with laser afterward. He said with laser tattoo removal you pay per square inch so might as well wait.

Hi Everyone, just found this part of the site. It was great reading different entries from people banded the same time as me. I was banded September 14 by Dr. Connie Campbell in NH. I went from a size 20 263LB's to a size 12 190 LBS. I have been working my butt off (literally) at the gym. I was going 4 times a week (very hectic end of the school year hope to get back next week) and just joined a womens softball team. I sometimes get discouraged about the slow weight loss but I see that I am in the same boat as many of you. I wish I had known about this link back in September.

Thanks for the inspiration. I will check back soon.

Lisa lee I do feel so freakin awesome.. I cant even begin to explain it. Yeah my gilrs need some major lifting as well. I breast fed all 5 of my kids so you can only imagine. I think i would wait until after the surgery to work on that tatoo so it will be less expensive for ya. Have a great day!

Patiencemom3....your weight loss sounds just right! You must be tall? I was a size 24 at 5'5" and am now a size 14. I too get frantic when the scale sits in one place for more than a couple of weeks but must remind myself "this is a two year weight loss program." Then, eventually a couple of pounds come off and I breathe a sigh of relief. It's gradual but consistent. Just imagine where we will be in September of 2009!

MimIn, Dallasmist...thank you for the advice! I really didn't know who or how to ask anyone!

Dang, the edit feature is so messed up! I tried to edit a post through the smiley faces, and it just kept getting worse! So, I'm trying to delete the whole thing and start over!

Just wanted to check in and say that I'm holding steady at 165. We've been busy this summer, with lots of events that involve food and alcohol, and I've not been very good at resisting temptation. I have to thank my band and spinning classes for keeping my weight steady.

I've had two plastic surgery consultations, and will probably be getting a breast lift/augmentation. I decided to hold on on any lower body work because based on what the docs said, the results I can reasonable expect just don't seem worth the cost, pain & scars. Plus, I don't relish the long healing process and having to skip exercise for so long.

I was wondering whether the original poster of this thread is still with us, and might consider editing the title of the thread to September 06 Bandsters to distinguish us from the folks who will be banded this coming September.

Hope ya'll are doing well & having a great summer!

Tami

Oops, never mind! I just noticed that it's already been done! I obviously don't spend enough time at LBT these days. I didn't realize they'd dropped the monthly support groups into a sub forum!

Lisalee I am not overly tall 5'6" I was always told that I don't look my weight. Again I truely appreciate all the writings that have taken place. It's so nice to see that so many people are in the same boat. I go back to the obesity clinic on Tuesday and see my surgeon for a fill on Wednesday then I will get an accurate weight. I too need to remember that this is a two year process.

Thanks again

Not much time for computers- Having a blast outside and staying busy.

Holding steady weight wise. Losing 2#- 4# per month. slow and steady- better than none at all!!

Gonnabethin...sounds about right! I figured out average weight loss since surgery and I am just a little over 1.5 pounds per week. Keep up the good work!

I am weighing in at 177 this morning....now at a BMI of 29.5. Some calculators make that "just" overweight...not obese...or morbidly obese where I started.

Anyway, I am satisfied with the loss.....slow but steady.

Great to read about you alls continued success. I'm much slower than most of you, but I'm hoping that this next fill will get things back where they should be. I've been way to preoccupied with starting a new business and eating out too often, on the run!

I lost 1 lb. last week.

BJean....one pound lost is great! That's what I lost. We all have our weird metabolisms...and discipline.

I think mine would slide off a little easier if I was more disciplined about certain foods and more consistent with the exercise. Frankly, I want to eat healthier choices but also don't want to be deprived. I love good food. Period.

The exercise comes in spurts...one week I run 5 miles in one night. Tonight I struggled to run 2 after dark in 80degree weather. It is so darned hot here. But I stay busy. As long as I come back to the exercise regularily I don't sweat it (no pun intended) too much.

There are some folks here that I admire so much. They are exercise fiends and are much more careful than I am about what they eat. I have learned (am learning?) to live w/my own level of weight loss.

So, be proud of that one pound and realize you may never gain it back again!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
