All this talk is making me nervous to go get a fill. The last time I got one I was more restricted than ever. I PB'ed several times at first. I didn't have some of the other symptoms that you all have had though.

Mimin: Glad it's getting better and I hope you all have a great trip. I've never dined at the Rainbow Room, just heard that it's really good.

karey: your input always helps me - just thought you should know that.

Greetings on Memorial Day. I hope you are all doing well. I am staying the same, but just barely. Up one day, down the next. Quite the roller coaster lately.

I survived the weekend in NYC with Jamie and his car antics - whew! I regret not getting an unfill and did not eat much this last week but pay off is I have met my final goal and exceeded it by 2lbs, I am down 8.2lbs this week. I haven't had a week like this in a longggg time. I now weigh 158lbs and I can't remember EVER weighing in the 150s. I remember when I was 12 going from 140 to 180 overnight!

Hello, I am new to this site and I was banded Sep 28, 06 on my 40th birthday. I haven't lost very much weight. About 30 pounds so far. I have had 3 fills and one unfill. My doctor is very busy and he is hard to get into for a fill appointment. I don't think I need a fill. Because I can hardly eat now. I am 300 lbs now and want to weigh about 170 and I am 6 foot 2. Any words of wisdom ladies?

Pat

Sure, hon. Stop eating and exercise. Simple, eh? I joke with you. You'll have to excuse me. I've hit a wall lately.

You sound like you're doing okay. Not the wildly successful huge loss that some people here have been able to manage, but 30 lbs lighter is nothing to sneeze at!

Hi ya'll, how's everybody? We had a busy Memorial Day weekend: 1 big party + 1 trip to the lake w/ friends + 1 family cookout = 1 lb. gain for the week. Then, yesterday I came down to spend a couple of days with my son in Auburn. I'm playing housemom to the boys. Unfortunately, that also means I'm facing many food temptations that I don't have in my own house! Wish me luck!

Mim, congrats on reaching goal! That's awesome. I can't imagine having a drop like that at this point out.

Hi Pat, and welcome to the group. Let us know a little about your food and exercise habits, and maybe we can help you get back on track. I always say the band is only about 25% of the solution. You have to also add good food choices/limited snacking, exercise, and positive mental energy. Are you drinking your Water? That makes a huge difference for me.

I've recently noticed something, and wonder if anyone else has ever experienced this. I slacked off on my water drinking the past two days, and my band seems much tighter. I've always heard that drinking lots of water acts as a diuretic. (I guess your body realizes it doesn't have to hold onto water, if you're constantly giving it plenty.) So, I wonder if this recent tightness is due to water retention? That also might be why some people get tighter around their TOM, I suppose.

Tami

Tami: I believe you would feel tighter because Water tends to keep the area opened up. That's why a lot of overweight people drink a lot with meals even without the band. It allows you to eat more. That is also why we are told not to drink anything closer than 15 min. from mealtime and not to drink during meals. If you drink during a meal you are much more prone to overeating. This is what the nutritionist preaches and also what my experience confirms.

I definitely agree that if you do drink plenty of water after about 1.5 hrs after a meal, and early enough before meals, you will do much better. I have had a hard time doing that. I need to focus more on water and less on what I can eat.

Hi all, down one pound to 180 this week. Slowly but surely. The clothes keep getting looser, weird huh?

Ambrosiap....welcome! This is a wonderful group to join. I admit I haven't been on here a lot lately but all these folks are wonderful...even if you just drop in from time to time. I have found that the only way to success is to increase my activity. Today that means mowing the yard, front and back and laying a brick pathway around my house. A couple of days ago it was pulling weeds for several hours. Sometimes it's walking or running.

It's getting more and more difficult as the temperature rises down here in Texas but rain or shine I do something. Friday I went out and exercised for 40 minutes in a cool drizzle. It just has to be done.

I admit that may seem like a lot of work, especially if you're unaccustomed to it. A lot of folks question why I should have to work out if I had surgery...wouldn't it just take care of itself. Unfortunately for me, no. Tami said a few months ago, and I concur that losing 30 or more pounds now enables her to exercise just a little more. It's exciting to see what can happen with more activity. I now crave physical activity and find that when I am not being as active as I can I get in an emotional funk and feel terrible.

The other thing to remember is that we are all different. While we have some true champions on this site, there are quite a few slower losers too. The only person you have to compete with is yourself, and it can be done!

Well, I got on a soap box and now I'll get off  We're glad to have you here!

BTW, Mim, you are a Rock Star!

Gonnabe: That's great! Be thankful for your one pound loss. I'm still the same this week but I need a fill, I'm sure. If your band is causing you to be disinterested in food, thank your lucky stars. I am experiencing the same hunger and cravings that I did before the band. I'm not able to eat as much though and that is sure helpful. Keep up the good work!

Weight for the week: same.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
