BJean: What about Water aerobics? That should be alright for your knees and it's a great workout. I hate sweating and in the water you can't tell if you do sweat. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm in on the next challenge also. Only lost 18 pounds for the Christmas Challenge, but was very bad during the holidays and didn't exercise for the last 4 weeks.

My starting weight is 218.

Tami & Karey: Thanks for your good suggestions. Since the surgery and subsequent weight loss, I can now do floor exercises if I don't put weight on my knees. So sitting or lying down is the plan. Water aerobics is definitely what I should be doing to maximize results. However since it is winter, that takes finding a place that offers it to fat people because I wouldn't be caught dead yet in a class with svelt swimmers!

I have a feeling that if I could do some 2.5 lb. weights while I'm in a sitting position and could strengthen my upper body, it would definitely help with my metabolism.

I have been seeing the exercise psysiologist and the exercises that she has given me are for water which I was doing at home when it wasn't so cold. She says water exercises are really all I can be safe in doing until I have knee replacements. However I think I can get away with the floor exercises since I've lost over 35 lbs.

I don't know if anyone else here is kind of stymied with this problem, but I think that my getting involved in the exercise challenge is one way to get me more motivated. How will the exercise challenge work?

I wrote a couple of days ago and it must of gone the cyber space. Anyway I am excited about the new challenge and would love it if MimIn kept track. I got my first fill today. It was nothing. of course that is what you all said so I really wasn't worried. she gave me 1cc in a 10cc band. doesn't sound like much but she said if in a couple of weeks if I am still having a control problem that she would fit me in. otherwise fill 2 is in one month. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE

oh does anyone know how to get the blank space off under the signature?

Hi Everyone.

I Was Banded On 9/05/06 And Have Watched All Of Your Amazing Weight Loss For The Christmas Challenge. You Guys Are Doing Soo Much Better Than I Am. I Lost Quite A Bit Quickly Now It Is Down To Barely Anything. Anyway, I Would Love To Join Your Next Challenge. What Exactly Do I Do? Do You Weigh In Once A Week And Report Back Here? If So, Is There A Particular Day? I Hate To Admit That I Am Completely Computer Illiterate And Haven't Figured Out The Ticker Yet Either. Oh Well.

Wt Before Surgery 251

Current Wt 215

Goal 150

Linda

I Just Noticed That You Had The Same Starting Weight, Goal Weight And We Are Currently Only 3 Pounds Different In Weight. We Will Have To Encourage Each Other To Stay On Task And We Can Both Hopefully Reach Our Goal Together. What Was Your Surgery Date? Good Luck And I Look Forward To Watching Your Progress.

TamifromAL

BJean

SLHarrison

Gonnabethin

Jodi-T

MimIN

Sandranoelle

Kareyquilts

Katt

TrueBlueSue

LindaN

Lauriegee

What kind of challenge does everyone want to do? I think pounds lost with an optional exercise challenge would work for everyone but what do y'all think?

I was thinking if we did do pounds lost with optional exercise challenge those that chose to take the exercise challange would also run an exercise ticker. Eg: if we decided on 30 min sessions 3 times a week x 11 weeks...

exercise.png

Should the Challenge begin January 1st 2007 or on Saturday January 7th (St. Patty's day falls on a Saturday this year)? I personally wouldn't mind starting a little bit earlier...:)

PERFECT!! That minimizes what you have to log. The exercise ticker can be on everyones signature!!

Here is a quick howto for those of us that are unfamiliar with posting a ticker...

1. Go to http://www.tickerfactory.com

Select "Weight Loss Tickers"

1.gif

2. Then select your ruler. At the bottom of the page there are links to additional ruler designs. Click the radio button beside the the ruler you want and click Next

2.gif

3. Now select your slider. Same as the ruler, there are additional slider designs linked at the bottom of the page. Click the radio button beside the slider you want and click Next

3.gif

4. Enter in a PIN number where indicated and then enter your start weight, current weight and goal weight. Optionally you can also enter in your height for a BMI tracker. Click Next

4.gif

5. Your ticker is complete! Now scroll down to the box labelled bbCode, Select all the text, right click and select COPY.

5.gif

6. Come back to Lapbandtalk.com, go to the top left hand corner of the page below the LapBandTalk logo select "User CP"

6.gif

7. On the left hand side of the page below Control Panel/Settings & Options select "Edit Signature"

7.gif

8. In the middle of the page under "Edit Signature" Click inside the text box, then right click and select PASTE.

8.gif

9. Then select "Save Signature" this will save the ticker to the signature of every message posted.

BJean: Most watet aerobics classes I've been to are full of overweight people and senior citizens. Try calling and then visiting a YMCA or a local sports mall, or recreation center. In Salt Lake there are Water aerobics classes available at most recreation facilities. I'm telling you that you will really like it if you give it a try.

MimIn: I'm impressed with all your hard work on our next challenge. You are going to town girl! Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
