September Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Welcome Turmoil!

I'm fairly new here as well (just banded on 9/28), but am finding the answers to a LOT of questions that I've had over the last couple of days.

Bjean, Larry, and anyone else who has been banded this month,

I am so happy for all of you. I can't believe I'm going on 4 weeks tomorrow. Time flies so enjoy the ride. It's been pretty much uneventful. I've lost about 15 pds and I'm truly happy so far. I wish you all the best and wish you a speedy recovery. All should go well now that you're on the banded side. Enjoy your journey and I truly wish you all the very best.

GO SEPTEMBER BANDSTERS!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Best Regards,

i did not know that about the 20 grams of Protein, i have been drinking those Isopure drinks also and thinking i was doing good on the protein thing. bummer. thanx for the info

Hi..and Congrats!!

go to www.fitday.com its awesome. You can track your calories, weight, exercise...everything and it's free!!!

High Protein? I just found that Slim Fast has a shake that is Carb Controlled (Walmart) low in sugar and still at a decent amt of protein. Otherwise, I am doing Isopure....40grams protein per bottle. But becareful...your body can only absorb 20 grams of protein at a time --the rest you pee out, so if you do isopure--drink half ...wait a few hours and drink the rest. I do Breakfast and dinner. When I get to that point I plan on eating a lot of fish --really high in protein...tuna, bluefish. Hubby is huge on fishing so he loves that I will be eating what he catches!!

Best Wishes to you!

gonnabethin: I was very close to having some nausea but it subsided before I was able to panic. I didn't get the pain between my shoulders. Ouch! I don't want it either. Sounds awful. I got my first port site pain though. That was scary because of all the talk here about inflammation and knots there and all that. Glad to know about the s/f orange sherbert. It was offered to me, but I didn't take it. I will avoid it. Thanks for the tip on that and grits w/ butter.

I actually had some turkey chili tonight and so far, so good. We were out of any kind of Soup and I didn't want to go to the store. I knew I was taking a chance, but the stats on the can were within range for fat, calories and carbs. Tomorrow I go for my first post-op dietician appointment. Have you done that? I'm wondering what she's going to say.

I know the first question will be "have you been exercising?" Well, I haven't been because of the knees, but I'm definitely more active today than I was pre-band. In other words, I'm off the couch as much as I can manage. Nothing to brag about, but some improvement.

You're doing well in the exercise dept. aren't you? Walking, etc.?

Great, that makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who isn't preparing for a marathon. Let's be sure to compare notes tomorrow after we see the dieticians.

I'm not exercising yet either, but I promise myself I am going to start by the end of the week on the bike or elliptical at the gym. I had a little experience today too. I was eating a Boca chicken patty and wasn't paying attention to chewing well and wow, pain, right in the stomach. I think I actually may have some type of restriction, and let me tell you, it hurt. I could feel it trying to go through the band. I drank a tiny sip of Water and that made it worse. Ouch. I won't be doing that anymore. Especially AFTER my first fill which is now scheduled for October 30th-Wooohoooo! Hope everyone is doing well!! It's so hard to believe that September is over already. Is anyone getting a little pain below their port area, on the left side in the pelvic region. Actually, feels like it's an ovary or something and it's annoying the heck out of me.

I have my dietician follow up this Friday. I hope I graduate from mushies to whatever is next. I have been doing well eating meat that I put in the food processor. I have had pulled pork, pot roast, and chicken. Last night I took a meatball, Pasta sauce and a little mozzarella cheese. Heated it all up together and put it in the food processor, and it was probably my favorite meal post banding. 2 oz total was very filling and different flavors then I have been eating.

I'm glad everyone is doing well. Welcome to all the newbies on this thread. We've had a number of new bandsters join us this week. Let us know how your journeys are going.

Well kiddos,

tried mashed potatoes yesterday and Good God!!! I have never been so gassy in my life! My husband thought I was paying him back for all those time he held my head under the covers! Don't think I'll be trying them for awhile, how embar-assing, hehe for a few seconds I thought there was dog growling behind me, I could'nt help it and could'nt blame it on the dog cause he's so little, if something like that came out of him he would propell across the room, so I blamed it on Idaho! whewww don't think I'll be eating that for a while. Going to the doc this week for a check up. Does anyone one know of a doc in Austin that will do fills if you had your surgery elsewhere? The only ones that have been reccomended are in Houston and Dallas. Let me know, and keep up the great work!

Here is my story!

Hello Everyone! I have not been able to get on to my computer ... But here I am. I was banded on September 20 (surgery took less then 1 hour) - and I feel wonderful! I did NOT experience any gas that so many have talked about ... Actually I am very blessed - the only pain I had was my neck and back from sleeping in the hospital bed for one night - I was ready to go home the same day, but my insurance insists I stay one night ... I was up and walking as soon as I got back to my room and felt full of energy! The nurses were amazed how well I felt and how quickly I was moving around. I was on the 10 day pre-op liquid diet and lost 10 lbs and have lost another 10 since surgery ... I was on liquids for the first week post-op and then to full liquids, but to be honest I have had "other foods" I just make sure to chew chew chew and I have not had any problems - I do not feel as hungry as I use to get and I certainly get full after a few bites ... I have to say everything has been wonderful .. I even had a piece of pizza! I am trying to walk a few times a week ... My insions are so tiny! they look like little scratches and do not bother me at all - my posrt area is healing well and again no pain. I really could of gone back to work on the Monday after surgery - but my surgeon said to take the 2 weeks and the short term disability and enjoy! So I am - i am getting a ton of stuff done around the house! this is a mini-vacation! I go back to work on Monday Oct 9 ... I hope everyone else is doing well.

;):):):):(:):):):):):):):):) ALL SMILES HERE!

Here's to you all! CONGRATS!!!!!! :clap2:

Itsgottago! Boy that experience will sure make a believer of you. I didn't have anything quite so dramatic happen, but it was a bite of the dry edge of a chicken breast and it felt awful! I've been avoiding chicken because of it. My port area is sensitive, but I don't have that sore spot that you mentioned.

Want2lose: Sounds like you're doing very well! Good for you for figuring out a formula for something yummy. I'm still afraid to do anything very adventurous - I had a bad bout with some Mexican food over the weekend. So I'm scared not to stay with really bland stuff. That worries me a little though because I'm not sure that nutritionally it's smart to eat so little for so long.

MOM- what's the good of having a dog if you can't blame him! I've had mashed and baked potatoes several times and they don't seem any worse to me than everything else. I don't seem to be able to escape the plight of blotation! Guess it can be sweet revenge if your DH has held your head under. When you two are lying in bed, get yourself ready and then tell him you're gonna spit straight up. He'll duck under the covers and then you can let it rip! LOL

WandaKay: You're a freak of nature! Far out, girl - I'm envious! Congratulations for having about the best surgery story yet! Keep up the incredible work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
