I am pre-op but from the message board posts, nutritionist that I see and from what I have read on the Internet, rice is one of the hardest things for the sleeve. Maybe eventually but I don't think the sleeve usually tolerates rice early on. Maybe there is hope later on and someone who is several months out can comment to the positive :)

Sushi will be a while out (rice) - I think most plans have it at 8 weeks or later.

On the flip side, I've been eating sashimi every day since I was able to add it at about 5 weeks. Sometimes I eat it for 2 or 3 meals a day, because it's better than Protein drinks. I just finished my last bite of sashimi for dinner, actually. It goes down well, and volume-wise, so far, it's what I can eat the most of. Sashimi & poke. Mmmm!

I had sashimi at 7 weeks and it was great. Tons of Protein. I had one piece of roll with rice though and it wasn't great feeling. I can eat rice now at 3 months but it is really filling.

Can you tolerate the ginger and wasabi with the sashimi?

Wasabi yes, but I don't care for the ginger. Not because of the sleeve though, I've never cared for it. I melt my wasabi into the soy so it's less concentrated, but I've also had hot & sour (to which I add vinegar and sriracha) and no problems. If it ends up being irritating, you can always use wasabi sauce. Has the flavor, but a lot less kick.

tuna sashimi has about 7g Protein per ounce. I top out at 4oz but if I go slow I can finish it. If I eat it twice a day that's 56gm Protein.< /p>

I've been eating sashimi since I was allowed soft foods at one month post-op. I just tried regular sushi the other night (I'm eight weeks out now) and I had no problem with it. I've had the wasabi with no problems but I don't like the ginger so I can't help you there.

Yes, love wasabi and have had no problems with it. I will say I use less because I eat slower and have to chew so much it was burning a bit. I had no problems with ginger. I put the wasabi directly on the fish.

I think I was 6 weeks out when I began eating sushi again, I started with the sashimi and then had sushi with light rice. I could only eat 2 pieces then. Now I can eat 4 pieces as long as it is light on the rice. (I'm 10 weeks out now)

I love sushi and have re-started eating in in the last 3 months- However- Rice is VERY VERY hard- and I can only eat 3 peices of sushi before I feel like I just ate thanksgiving dinner!! IT's crazy- so I only go with someone willing to share because a whole roll is a huge waste... Also I ask for brown rice now and ask them to cut the peices thinner than normal. OOH and I CANNOT stand the seaweed they wrap it in- don't know if it's consistancey or what but post op no no... everything else is great.. Ginger and wasabi...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
