Lesss than 2 weeks out and I'm fitting into my clothes like a pro. Even my sneakers fit lovely. Thy use to hurt a lot if I wanted in them too long but now they fit so comfortable! My button ups use to be tight around the belly area, guess what??? They are even loose when I sit down lol... Everybody knows if the shirt is tight standing up it even tighter sitting down lol... I'm feeling grateful for this sleeve. I still have the heartburn and upset stomach dilemma but it's getting better day by day... Btw I have this crazy craving for something carbonated lol... Any way my last day of full liquids is Monday then I start mushy foods in over 3 and a half weeks!

Congrats on you accomplishment so far!! Have you asked your doc for some protonix or other meds for your heartburn? I use to have lots of acid and took protonix daily after surgery, now I only take them if needed. Again congrats.

Thats awesome! Congratulations on you success so far! :D

So how is it? The liquid part of the diet? I'm finishing up my pre-op doctor qualifications next week and should be scheduling my big day in a week or two. I'm so ready and very excited to the show on the road. The part I'm looking least forward to right now, is the liquid diet the week pre-surgery.

Any tips and things to be aware of that you wish you prepared for?

I am on the pre op liquid diet...and its hard. Don't let anybody lie to you. My surgeon gave me a list of things I can eat. And then an hourly guide...like at 9am drink this many ounces of this...etc etc. I am sooo grateful for this schedule...I move things around but make sure I don't eat more or less than what the hourly schedule says and I have been doing ok...I bought sugar free popsicles last night and man oh man!! They taste sooo good right now!! My advice is get a magic bullet. When I get sick of the Protein shakes I will blend them with ice and have myself a smoothie!!

Jimmy, Congratulations!!! You're already seeing results, which is so wonderful!! Don't give in to the urge for something carbonated. Do check with your doctor about an acid reducer and/or a nausea medicine. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel as soon as you start taking them. Are you allowed Decaf tea or coffee right now? If so, maybe a cup of one would help with the idea that you need soda.

I love that you're already looking for those NSV's! I'm gonna turn every one of the newbies into NSV ho's like me! :)

Congrats...keep up the good work. I thought I wanted carbonated drinks, then I had a sip of apple juice. It was watered down and still so freaking sweet. I cant imagine drinking sugar...I mean soda. Lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
