My personal opinion? If you are having a hard time eating, I would eat anything that appeals to you. You are eating so little that calorie counting is probably a non-issue. You have to fuel your body with something, even if it isn't the healthiest thing in the world. Later on you can become more choosy. Keep up with fluids and do your best w/ Protein. Good luck!

First of all congrats on your journey. Follow your doc's advice and chew very slowly and take it one bite at a time. if you feel full don't take the extra bite just stop. Do not drink for at least 30-45 minutes after each meal. If you are having problems with gas, be sure to get a prescription from your doc to help with that because this will help to keep you from being nauseous. I hope this helps.

I was eating lots at 5 weeks. Cottage cheese refried Beans with salsa, chicken, lunchmeat, yogurt, just to name a few. Good old trial and error worked for me and I got lucky and didnt have one issue with any foods. Good luck to you.

At 5 weeks, I was eating pureed Soups. My favorite was ham and lentil with veggies. I tossed it into a blender which made it look gross, but it tasted wonderful. It had a bold flavor which I needed at this stage.

Other Soups I made were chicken veggie and turkey chili. Blended them and they were wonderful (at this stage).

I actually ate some scrambled eggs with potted meat in my soft foods stage, JUST to have a different flavor. Refried Beans were a favorite during mushies, and I threw some dinty moore beef stew in my magic bullet just to get a different taste, too. Lots of options.

Best Foods - Real Mayonaise, 1 tbl (13g)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
