Ok here I go! I need advice I am have surgery May 15 2012! I have been dealing ok and was excite! Now as time get closer all I can think about and worry about the sagging skin.I am 29 yrs old and my hight is 5'4, my highest weight was 253 and I am 240 now. I know this wounds so crazy but i have heard of so many stories where ppl had soo much sagging skin that they regreted having his surgery!! someone ppl give me some feed back!

If you go to the Post Op forum, there is a great post by JimmyGotSLEEVED it is at the top of the section and it says something along the lines of 20 ways to tighten your skin after surgery. It's a great post. Hope this helps.

Everyone's bodies are different. I've heard from people where working out and toning helps reduces sagging where others have it no matter what. Good news is there are solutions for that. I was once worried about sagging skin too but I came to the conclusion I'd rather have a normal BMI with saggy skin living life being happy then being morbidly obese with the issues that come along. So for me health trumps saggy skin. If it gets bad I'll look into cosmetic procedures to correct it. That's my two cents.

I think, at your age, you have a better chance of skin elasticity. Try watching some VSG youtube vlogs... I can think of one woman with similar stats who even looked great in a bathing suit after surgery. I'm in my 40s and have been around 250 for 20 years. I've already decided to be okay with skin, because I can still cover it with clothing. Covering 250 lbs with clothing doesn't hide anything. I'm guessing 150 lbs will be a different story. You will look and feel so much better, even with some extra skin, then not having the procedure and not losing wt. You are YOUNG..your skin is more likely to have elasticity, versus mine, at age 56. I envy your age for that reason.

You will do great! Embrace this opportunity to become a healthy person who will be able to do the fun things you want to do now, but cannot do because of your weight. Focus on the positive...use imagery to see yourself thin and pretty!

I have been over wight for 10 years and the surgeon said he felt I would have no problems with sagging skin! but what got me was yesterday I went to youtube and saw all the clip of ppl showing their sagging skin!! My husband told me stay away from youtube lol

I'm really bad at translating heights & weights into a visual of what you look like, so there may be some exception to what I say. But at 30, and guessing you're more than 100 lbs overweight (?), you will probably have saggy skin. I know this isn't what you're wanting to hear, but it's the most probable reality. Really young, and by that I mean - 15 - maybe early 20s - may get off with less saggy skin but if significantly overweight for any significant period of time, there's more than likely some saggy skin that's going to happen.

Lots of things can play a role. Genetics, mainly. Also lifestyle (fitness, health, and everything that could play into those such as smoker vs non-smoker, generally hydrated or generally dehydrated, etc.), ethnicity, sun exposure... etc.

I don't think 30 is going to help you much. Maybe if you were 12. ;) I had my lapband at 30 and my saggy skin - well let's just say I referred to it as my deformity. Yes, our skin is different, but for age to play a factor it has to be significant.

Here's how my surgeon puts it (I love this quote): “It is a matter fact. If you lose 150 pounds from an elastic organ such as skin, you’re going to have saggy skin.”

But here's the bright side. Saggy skin is much healthier than fat, and can be covered up much more convincingly.

I am right at having to lose 99 to 100 pounds!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
