Just Started Soft Foods And I Feel Like I Screw Up Everytime I Eat!

Recommended Posts

I 'hide' the meat in the purée, like for example I've puréed low fat, low salt ham into FF refried Beans or used chicken. I add unflavored Protein & some broth as well. I really like yogurt & put Protein Powder in those. I weigh & measure everything out. : )

Also I put smooth PB in my Protein Shakes with a half of a small banana with no problems. I was sleeved 4/24/12. Only problems I'm having are with puréed foods too thick or spicy.

I'm just 2 1/2 weeks out and am as confused as some of you sound... I saw a Registered Dietician pre-op who gave me specific guidelines, but then my surgeon gave me other instructions that contradicted what RD said. After losing 12 pounds immediately on Clear Liquids, I followed what the surgeon said to eat/drink something every few hours. In trying to do that AND get 64 grams of Protein in, I actually gained weight!

I'm back on track now but confused about what's on pureed diet: how little protein it contains, and why should i fill up on baby food with carbs and no protein when I could just stick with the Protein Drinks. I never had any guidance on the number of calories I should be eating, and wonder if calories and/or carbs should be tracked as importantly as protein.

I feel like the only time I lost weight so far was on sugar-free CLD, where it felt like the Atkins diet and I lost those first 12 pounds so easily.

Any advice?

I also didn't have to puree my meat. For the first 2 months the nutritionist recommended only canned chicken or tuna, which was fine - I just chewed a lot. :)

So......I had my 2 week appt yesterday with the nutritionist. She said I could start eating eggs' date=' cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, cheese and refried Beans. I'm allowed to have soft meat and hearty bean Soups if they're pureed. I should only be eating 1/4 cup each meal and getting @ least 800 calories a day.

This is my problem........I am eating 1/4 cup (and I'm using a measuring cup) but I feel like I'm right on the verge of throwing up. I haven't yet but its right in the back of my throat. Should I just cut down my portion size??

I have been keeping a food diary since my surgery and I'm finding it hard to calculate all of my nutritional facts (Sorry but I'm OCD and I like for my figures to be exact. LOL) especially if I'm eating less than the serving size. I have looked online and I'm not having much luck finding a good tool with just nutritional facts. Anyone know any good tools?

I'm so afraid of failing! I hope I haven't stretched my stomach by eating too big of a portion. I wonder......how easy is it to stretch it out.

Thanks for listening to me ramble! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.[/quote']

Hi L, I am 12 days out. Tomorrow the doctor will let me eat soft foods! 1/4 cup of food is probably too much for you know. I would eat less. My doc says 600 calories. Protein shakes, Protein Soups, tomorrow he'll tell me soft foods. But I can't eat more than a bite full or two at a time. Hope it helps! Lori

I just started puréed foods today. I blended ground chicken with chicken bouillon Soup and a little flour to make it gravy like. Also had some mashed sweet potato. I put it in myfitnesspal and omg the calories just jumped off the page at me. It said 4 tbs of sweet potato is 556 calories. I hope not !!! Ate about 1/2 of 1/4 cup of each. I lost 25 lbs on full liquid and pray I won't gain while I begin phase two. Any suggestions what other people are doing would be greatly appreciated.
