Approved! (But Petrified Now!)

Recommended Posts

I just got the word that my insurance approved my surgery for June 14. After 12 long months of mandatory counseling, I couldn't wait to hear this news. Then 15 minutes later, my stomach started doing flips because reality just set in. I'm petrified now! I wanted this so bad and I am probably feeling what other people have felt but reading about it for the last 6 months still doesn't make the way I feel any less real! Maybe it's the finality of it all -- knowing that they can't put my stomach back once it's done. Gosh I feel like a fool -- I should be jumping for joy!

Don't feel like a fool. I felt/feel the same way, and I don't even have a date yet. I think it is perfectly normal to have some trepidation. This is a major change. We will come through this and wonder what we were so worried about. Good luck to you!

Although I've been reading many forum posts this is my first post. Didn't join until I received a surgery date. Somehow getting the date turned this into reality which is very exciting. I know exactly what you are feeling right now and very happy for you. You're on your way.

I felt the same way...it wore off after a while. Now I am just anxious to get the surgery for many reasons but mostly this is going to be such a big change. And I want to start ironing out the new plan...good luck!!

@wolfgirl: we need to stay in touch. It could be very theraputic to talk to someone going thru it w/me!

@beautifulnewme2012: that makes sense. Since i have a month maybe the bad feelings will ebb! Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
