Hey Gigi Girl,

I just had my surgery with Dr. Miles on 04/25/12. It has been a great process with no pain and no nasuea. I recieved wonderful care at St. Vincent's and everyone was very professional. I have lost 30lbs so far and I am now just begining to eat some regular food. I have tried several things which havn't settled well with me so I have left them alone and maybe I will try them again later. I have been able to eat Pasta fine just not much of it. Any questions you have feel free to ask and I will answer them best I can. Good Luck and everything should go great for you!

I had Dr. Miles and he was Awesome! Tell him Vicki Gier highly recommended him! I did not have any nausea and very little pain. The St. Vincent's people are wonderful, caring people, so you will be in good hands. I cannot say enough about Dr. Miles. If you have not met him yet, know that he is very experienced, and has a way of putting you at ease quickly. Let me know if you have any other questions. Are you inpatient our out patient? We stayed at the Hampton Inn. I recommend room 112. It is close to the front door.

Hi Vicki, good to hear your good results! Dr. Miles put in my lap band in 2008. I had no complications with my initial band surgery. It now has a leak and I am gaining weight. He has requested my insurance cover revision to a sleeve. I am in a holding pattern. You say you stayed at the Hampton, does he not require an overnight stay for revision?

Wow! 30 lbs in 2 weeks is awesome! Was your sleeve your first surgery or a revision? Was your procedure inpatient or outpatient?Gigi

My insurance did not cover my surgery, so I was outpatient.

This was my first surgery and I stayed one night in the hospital....Staff was awsome! I could have not gotten better care anywhere. I choose the sleeve because after alot of research I felt it was the best option for me. My insurance did cover my surgery after doing all the necessary steps. I started my process back in October and had my surgery in April. I walked a mile this morning and it felt great, would of never had the drive or motivation to that before! My starting weight was 316 and I am now down to 286...my goal is 185. My advice is do what Dr. Miles and Vernoica tell you to do for the first 3 to 4 weeks to give your stomach time to heal.....there is a great video on youtube that shows exactly how they do the surgery...not to graphic...but it is an actual surgery. Hope you get approved soon!

Vicki, you mentioned staying at the Hampton. Did you have tests the next AM or just office visit to follow-up? I am thinking since I am an hour and a half away from St Vincent's East, that staying overnight locally would certainly be better than coming home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
