August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

Hey girls.

I was sleeved on 8/1 by dr Chau in Princeton nj. I was released on 8/2. I am 21 years old about 5'4 and went in weighing 257 pounds. I am now at 252 lbs. I was surprised that I did not feel much pain since I'm not one to tolerate pain it was more sore than anything.

Hi ya'll...

Well after my pre-op visit and re-reading some of the posts, I'm a little curious. My doc said he would be using a #44 French boogie???

And I see others have such a smaller one... what's the difference... anyone know?

I had never heard of a bougie till I started watching videos. here is one I watched from my Doctor that explained them. The smaller the better, mine wil be a 32....seems to me a 44 is really big

Not necessarily the smaller the better, because I think the smallest is like a 28, but Dr. A uses a 32, which as he explains takes out enough of the stomach to give good long term results without narrowing the stomach too much and causing a stricture (too narrow of a passage). Base on my understanding, a 44 seems large to me too. HTH.

Hello ladies. I was sleeved on Thursday. Surgery went fine. I was in a lot of pain afterwards that was not very well controlled for awhile after. :-/

I was unable to keep down sips of anything or ice chips until late this morning. Trust me dry heaves after being sleeved Is incredibly painful. I've been able to do some walking. Every day is a little better. First day was rough!

Started my official pre-op liquids yesterday. Must be psychological, I did not struggle much at all when it was optional, but the first day I am required to do it, I can't stop thinking about my favorite foods. Control issues - ya think?

Thanks Klyn for posting the video link! I hadn't thought of asking the surgeon that question.

My surgery is 3 days away and I can't sleep at all. I'm very nervous and starting to have second thoughts... I keep asking myself: How am I Christian if this is considered self mutilation? What if I have complications? What if I can do this on my own? What example am I setting for my 12 year old sister by doing this? I'm also thinking... I have no self control and don't know how it got me to such an extreme.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
