August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

I have to discontinue my hormone therapy until surgery...my poor Hubby !!

nawlinzlady - Why do you have to discontinue your hormone therapy before surgery? Just asking because I am on hormones as well.....want to be sure, although my surgeon told me to continue all meds before.

Well you can add me to the August 2012 list, yay!!! I just found out yesterday I am scheduled for August 1st, so right now it looks like I will be first in line. Eeeekkk!!!! :o Y'all are going to be there cheering me on, right???

I am scheduled to start my full liquid pre-op on 7/25, but I am using the next few weeks to wean myself off of things so that I don't experience such a shock when the 25th rolls around.

The week of 6/25 I said good-bye to carbonated beverages

The week of 7/2 is audios to sugar

The week of 7/9 is Ciao to fried foods

The week of 7/16 is Au Revoir to "white carbs"

The week of 7/23 is HELLO TO THE NEW ME!!!

Let's do this, August sleevers!!

Well, finally someone ahead of me....good luck and congrats!!!!

Ok, so my weird, ready for this and packed, self has ordered a medic alert Bracelet from Lauren's hope . com to wear after. It says my name, my ice phone number, hypothyroid/ VSG wls, no NG tube/NSAIDs. That site has pretty ones. I figured with the NG tube it's a good reason to have. But also, if something happens and they don't know I don't have a thyroid (I don't have a removal scar), not having that medicine, I would go into a coma and die...so I'll bring it with me and wear it after. Always an excuse for jewelry, right?

Sounds pretty, I've been thinking a lot about this. Should I leave a will at home and just make sure someone knows its there? should i make a "good bye video" just incase!?!?! scary stuff! I saw your post about NG tube, and blinders, can you elaborate on this???? I saw someplace else about this but i don't remember anything about it. Is it because our tummy is so small (or will be..) that they can't put an NG tube in ...since we will get full so fast??

Congrats!!! I sure will add you!!!!!! and you bet your ass we'll be cheering you on!!!!

I'm an August sleever now! Just got scheduled for 8/14. I have to lose 5% of my body weight prior to surgery, and I only have 2 pounds left, which should be a breeze, so they let me schedule. I am so excited I literally had trouble falling asleep last night. When I finally fell asleep, I dreamt about the surgery all night. Got my FMLA forms all submitted today and I'm ready to go. Wish it was sooner, but I'm trying to enjoy the journey and be patient!

CONGRATS!!! You've done great with your weight loss so far, glad you got your date and that your an august sleever! I'll add you!!! :)

did it because of the 'no thyroid' but I knew the no NG tube is a controversial thing. It mostly affects bypass wls but questions arise I believe due to the width of our banana like sleeve. It's something that shouldn't be done without seeing what/where it's going. I just don't want to take chances! As for wills? I have nothing, so no problem. I do think I'll leave some info with a coworker regarding credit cards, so they'll know if I'm dead!!! Or leave access to my bank account, cause I'm the only one on it. !!! That's all my extent of things

My surgeon says hormone meds lead to increase risk of blood clots. I had to do this for other surgery with different Surgeon as well. I hate it..He does say I can replace it with one the OTC "natural" ones, but they have never done anything for me

Because of everyone talking about pre op diets, I have been preparing myself. I just spoke to my doctors office. I have only a 24 hour all clear liquid pre op. nothing else. I am both overjoyed and a little disappointed. The 2 week pre op diet sounds difficult, yet in a way is like really getting ready for post op and confirming just how close to the new life we are. maybe I'll self impose a 1 week pre op. maybe.

I doubt it MGM. My BMI is 43. I think it's just their policy.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
