Lap Band Olympics???

Recommended Posts

It's been only 11 days since my banding, and I'm still on the liquid diet. But, is it normal to have to fly to the bathroom at a dead run EVERY time you have broth or something? I swear my weight loss is coming from the fact that I've unintentionally picked up running as a form of exercise.

I've even gotten good at hurdles thanks to my 4 year old and my basset hound. I've learned that throw rugs are appropriately named. I've rethought the idea of putting my bed where it must be walked around to get to the master bath. Walked around? Who am I kidding? I've actually managed a few flying sommersaults over it. Not too bad for a chubby girl, huh?

Is this problem typical during the liquids only stage?

Yep, the liquids stage made me feel like all I did all day was drink and pee! But, now that I'm trying to drink at least 64oz of Water a day...it's still the same! Hey, it's extra exercise!

Hey Koala,

You're too funny!! I actually had to read this over 3 times before I understood what you were talking about. ;) I thinking that this might possibly be the reason why some people haven't responded. ?!?!?!

I originally thought your post was about doing crazy acrobatic things 11 days after banding. Now, I understand you're doing these crazy things to get to the bathroom in time. Am I understanding this correctly?!?!?!?!?!

I'm just picturing this in my mind & it makes me laugh!!

Thank you guys for responding. Yeah, I was being silly about the acrobats, though. The running is from diahhrea.

Do you think it's normal to have that continuing problem during the liquid stage?

I'm about to start mushies a week early because school is about to start, and I can't run to the bathroom leaving a room of 12 & 13 year olds unattended.

OOPS, I feel silly! I thought you were peeing alot. Hmmm, I don't know about diarrehea (however you spell it). I didn't experience this problem. Have you mentioned it to you doctor? Since I didn't have the same issue i don't know if it's OK or not.

I agree with lapBandit, you should call your Dr. I was banded a day after you and have not had that problem at all. I hope everything is OK. Have fun next week back at school. ;)

lol! Great post Koala!!! I read it aloud to my bf and we both laughed.

I'm much impressed that you can run....I had to do more of an ass clenched two step shuffle. I was afraid I'd blow on the way and running would rattle it out. Let's just say, I soiled more than a few pairs of undergarments.

I guess all I can say is....yup, yer normal.

Congrats on being banded!!!! It gets better....I promise!

I had a similar problem, but found it was more from the antibiotics that my surgeon had his patients take after the surgery. I talked to his nurse and she said that "thats not doing you any good, so stop taking them." But yes, I still have the Olympic issue myself now and again. I think our bodies are wondering whats gonig on and how do we adjust to all this.

You post was a good laugh (the way you put it). My kind of humor.

Terry ;)

Yup, yup, yup....it didn't happen to me for about 10 days after surgery but when it did I thought something was wrong because I had never experienced such....um.....urgency should we say?!?!? But as you reintroduce solids things....um......solidify.....slowly. This too shall pass (literally) good luck with your band!

:) OMG, Koala, I just read your post, got a visual and couldn't stop laughing. On a serious note though, no, I had the exact opposite problem. I had my surgery and then didn't go for 3 weeks. When I finally did, I called everyone and told them, and even posted about it on here because I was so excited!

I had it the first few days, then I finally took "The Best Me". aka Kathy's advice and got some Aloe Vera juice. It bound it up enough to be soft, but not loose.

yuk. I was tired of the bowl blasting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
