Hello Fellow VSG'rs ok its been a while since I was on here , but I am happy to say I am currently down to 178lbs , thats 75 lbs from where I began this journey !!!!!! As a result of losing what I consider to be a whole child off of my 5'2" frame , I can do so many more activities including running!!! Running has been an activity I absolutely hated unless it was moving me away from immediate and immenant danger, but to do so created an inferno in my chest and made me sweat like a race horse!!!! My new NSV is that I am now running because I actually like it ..... what ????? did I just say that ??? Oh yes I did , it allows me thinking time to myself it kicks up my endorphins and makes me burn way past the run , and I am preparing to run a half marathon in September. Now for me thats major because I used to profess being allergic to running!!!!!! My legs are building all king of muscle tone , although I still have the loose skin and thighs that wont just dissapear already!!!! But all and all I feel fabulous and I wouldnt change a thing about my journey and progress :-) Hope everyone is fairing well!!!!! My enemy sugar just wont give up and go away , I am fighting hard to lose that relationship.

OH one more thing, I use the Fitbit to track my activity , I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fitbit. It motivates me to outdo my own scores daily as well as those of my sister. My mind is set on oh I walked 5.85 miles well I can make that 6, I keep moving and look again and its 6.95 and I'm like well now I have to make it 7 and so on !!!! That little thing has had me pushing myself beyond my limits trying to do better , I LOVE IT !!!!!!

Be sucessful!!!

Two Fingers , One Love!!

CAMMYD*:-)

Yes, I, too, was quite suprised to find that I enjoyed running. I've been doing races now and am doing a 10K at the end of this month, half marathon in July and a full marathon in October.

Check out my blog for some of my thoughts on being a VSG runner.

Congrats!!

Oh, Cammy! I'm so inspired. I've always wanted to run but have always been in too much pain to do it. My personal goal is to get into the 170's before I begin my Couch-2-5-K --I wanted to get a significant amount of weight off my bones before I asked my body to do such a feat!!

Good for you and thanks for sharing!!

How exciting! I am with Nancy, I really want to run but first would like to be at a lower weight. I am terrified of having a bad experience with it and having it discourage me from trying again!

I really want to run, but I cannot find any clothing that prevents (TMI and ewww coming - just warning you) my apron from clapping. I am really suprised because it is large, but not overly so. The problem is, if it claps, it chafes - and I am in HumidHell--I mean Houston :P

Any suggestions? I really want to get back to running.

Very happy for your success! Yayyy!

So, I have the extra skin issue, too, so I wear the Under Armour compression shirts. It keeps every loose bit from bouncing too much. I talk about it a bit in my blog (link below).

To start training for running, I started by walking, then moved to a slow jog between telephone poles. I was still quite large at the time and didn't push myself too hard, but I got out there and worked on moving. As they say, before you walk, you have to crawl. If you want to run, don't think you have to go out and run 3 miles on your first outing. It took me over a month before I could jog a mile. Don't try to bite off too much. There are no medals, here. Just fitness. Take it easy, but as they say ... just do it.

Gosh I'd think you could find a compression garment that would work. Have you looked for anything like that online? Just trying to think of an option.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
