gr8fun 9 Posted May 9, 2012 Help I messed up today and ate...at McDonalds. My surgery is Tuesday. I'm going right back to the diet. Should I do Clear Liquids longer instead of two days? Please help I'm freaking out!!!
NJsharon 119 Posted May 9, 2012 I think you will be okay. Just don't do it again! I had a 2 week pre-op diet of just 'eating healthy' & trying to change my habits for the better. Then 3 days pre-op diet of liquids. I think it is the liquid diet that is more important.
Shilo30 16 Posted May 9, 2012 Don't freak! I have been doing a pre-op diet for over a month now... My Dr has different stages to the diet... and admittedly I have cheated more than once. I try and still make better choices when I do cheat (smaller portions etc) but I am still losing weight so I am not freaking! I don't think MCD's on occasion will ruin your surgery. Being on this diet so long there's no way I was strong enough mentally to NOT cheat. But that's part of the process I am going through.. have to get my mind/emotional state to match up with what I know is good for me. Best of luck to you!! I am also a May 15th surgery date. gr8fun 9 Posted May 9, 2012 The bad thing is that my body has reacted badly and I cannot get far away from the bathroom.
Shilo30 16 Posted May 9, 2012 Ooooohhhhh I got ya! That sucks. Did you try taking anything to make it stop?? I have noticed the same thing though... when I eat something that is sweet or not a vegetable my stomach gets icky. Which sucks but I guess is also a good thing! Means you are doing something right! Pookeyism 1,143 Posted May 9, 2012 Low carbs/low fat is the important thing...get right back on your horse! Good luck!

Doreykn 113 Posted May 9, 2012 The reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, not just to get use to eating a new way. I don't think 1 cheat is going to ruin the whole thing. Just remember why you're doing this... I had 10 days of liquids & 1 day of clear liquids pre-op. Good luck.
azquilter92 82 Posted May 9, 2012 the difference between surgeons is really fascinating.I didnt have to do a pre-op diet at all.I did have to eat lite the day before surgery and then of course nothing 10 hrs before.and I have at no problems.,but i should note that I had pretty much given up fast foods before I even went to the surgeon,I mean I still ate them every now and then but not like before where I had fast food three times aday.since surgery on March 10 I have lost 35 pounds.and its awesome! 1 aznurse4u reacted to this
mrsnate 55 Posted May 9, 2012 I would just go back to your regular pre op diet and stick to it as much as possible for the rest of the time. I cheated on my preop diet once and ate a cookie. I felt so guilty afterward! But, I did perfect the rest of the time and ended up losing 16 pounds by my day of surgery. Good luck!

BentleyJade 28 Posted May 10, 2012 I've yet to get my surgery date and pre-op diet info..but I am quite curious as to what would happen if your liver didn't shrink enough? I'm afraid I will cheat on the pre-op diet, but I pray that I won't. A friend of mine told me her dr told her that he canceled someones surgery after beginning it (as in after cutting them open) because their liver was not shrunk. worries... BentleyJade 28 Posted May 10, 2012 Oh wow..that is so scary!! What if we do everything right (no cheating) and it still isn't small enough? Its really starting to worry me..like I'm the girl with the largest liver ever..lol. but really, I hope mine shrinks down from the diet! Maybe those horror stories will be my motivation to not cheat!! 1 shelleyrn22 reacted to this
