I get that we need so many oz of Water per day but what I don't understand is why does it seem that the risk of dehydration is more after surgery?

I think it's probably because we actually consume alot more liquid in the average course of a day than we think we do. Just think about how often you get a pop, a coffee, something to drink with Breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc. And of course we have liquids in our meals as well. So plenty of fluids in the course of the average day.

Now, we have a tiny stomach, so during our meals, we are not drinking (no room!). We can't just quickly guzzle down a bottle of Water when we're thirsty. We're not drinking the endless cans of soda we were before our VSG, and probably not having as much coffee, tea, etc. either.

So we're getting dry.....alot more dry than we were when our stomachs were at our original size.

I could be wrong, but this is what makes sense to me........can some of the local "experts" chime in on this?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
