I have a date July 10. I found out today my insurance did not go through when I retired. I have two months to get it straightened out. I hope this is easy to fix as I am very anxious to have the surgery.

I assumed you've retired recently, and just found this out? What happened that it didn't go through? (do you have medical coverage as part of your retirement benefits, or did you switch to a private plan and something happened, or...?) Let us know if we can help.

As an insurance administratror for an employer; I know a little about this. You should have been offered Cobra within 30 days of your last day worked.

Then you have 60 days from the date of the letter or the end of your active coverage (whichever is later) to enroll in Cobra. To enroll, the only thing required by law is to complete their form and get it postmarked within that 60 day time period.

Once you postmark the enrollment, you have 45 days from the date you place it in the mail to actually mail a payment.

So in short, if you are within 60 days of your end of employment, you are ok. Get ahold of your insurance provider or your insurance person at work and they should be able to help you wade through it all.
