coops 1,790 Posted May 8, 2012 Hi all, just thought I would put this out there ... I am always open to suggestions! Over the last 3-4 weeks I have been really tired, and I mean post op 'heavy' tired. I have been having nanna naps after work and sleeping quite heavily... I haven't done this for a very long time... well, since I got my sleeve! This tiredness, in turn, effects my motivation to actually do anything be it work related, exercise or general conversations... it isn't every single day, but many times a week! I have been under a lot of stress in work and and feeling a little blue on occasions... but normally, by this time of year ( my work stresses are predictable due to time of year for working deadlines etc) I am starting to get my mojo back. I haven't been training as much due to this fatigue either... sometimes, it is beyond tired, of that makes sense. I am still eating around 1000- 1200 cals and I am starting to wonder if my lack of energy, tiredness and general blurghhh is done to this. I am good all day, I get home from work and I am still ok for an hour or so, but anytime after say 6-6.30pm I go down hill and I go fast! I am sleeping ok at night, but I often wake up feeling like I have not rested enough. Any ideas on how to combat this awful feeling... I honestly feel like I did shortly after the op in regards to my energy level. As always, any suggestions are welcome from my sleeve friends...
Katie713 423 Posted May 8, 2012 Perhaps you need to have some blood work done - you could be deficient in Iron or something else that is making you overly tired. As we age, our nutritional needs change. I would check it out, its worth a try!
Lissa 2,631 Posted May 8, 2012 I'm not an old timer, but I agree about the blood work. I feel tired when I don't take my B12 and Biotin. It may be in my head, but it's worth a shot. Good luck and please let us know if you solve it!
coops 1,790 Posted May 8, 2012 thanks for the quick replies... Good idea... I wouldn't normally complain, but it has been going on too long on a consistent level... we all get out 'tired' days, but these just 'feel' different! I might just have to go and see my doc *sighs*
Forensikchic 528 Posted May 8, 2012 If your Iron is low you are anemic and you will feel very tired from that. Please go get some bloodwork done and see if you are deficient in a Vitamin or iron. Good luck!
Mews 37 Posted May 9, 2012 I fourth the idea of bloodwork. Also, maybe add some healthy carbs to your diet to give you a bit of a boost in the meantime. I know that once I added them to my diet I haven't been dragging along as badly. I just though about this too: you said that you're under a lot of stress. Maybe you have symptoms of depression? I've had chronic depression for a while now and I know it sometimes manifests itself by making me very tired, groggy, and cranky. If the bloodwork comes out clear, this may be something to look into. lsereno 2,525 Posted May 9, 2012 Might just start taking the Iron and see if it helps while waiting for the Dr.s appt. Tiredness is the classic hallmark of Iron deficiency. According to my program (Kaiser Fremont Bariatrics): If you are taking two mulitivitamins with minerals per day, you are getting about 36 grams of elemental iron. My program recommends an additional 30 grams of elemental iron per day if needed. When selecting an iron supplement, pick one with Vitamin C or take 500 mg of C with the iron. Take the iron just before bed. It must not be within two hours of taking mealks, Multivitamins, or tea or it will not be absorbed correctly. Lynda
