Kelly213 0 Posted May 8, 2012 It seems I have developed a hiatal hernia after having VSG. The hernia is causing me to have severe reflux. I'm not able to keep food down the majority of the time. Has anyone else had this happen? My doctor recommends surgery to repair the hernia, or to convert to a bypass. Should this be covered under the I year post op complications coverage? traceyc 89 Posted May 8, 2012 I had a bad hiatal hernia repaired with my sleeve. It basically cured my horrible reflux issues so I would recommend getting it fixed if it is an option. I don't know about being covered as a complication. I would ask for sure if it is covered.
healthiermeat40 25 Posted May 8, 2012 I had the same problems but before my surgery. When you had the surgery why your doctor didnt prepare the hernia then? It had to be there before hand. Did you have a EGD exam before surgery. A good surgeon would check before surgery if you had any reflux problems.
Kelly213 0 Posted May 8, 2012 I did not have the hiatal hernia at the time of my VSG. My doctor said he always checks for this and even showed me in his surgeon's notes where it stated I didn't have a hernia. I also did not have this terrible reflux before surgery. DogBone 1 Posted May 11, 2012 Did you checked you gallbladder after the VSG? If you developed stones, they can cause severe reflux.
