Hi all!

Sooo I am 1 week out from being sleeved. No pain and feeling pretty darn good! I will lay the beginning of my docs post op diet to give you guys a better idea before I ask my question.

Week 1 & 2: liquids

(Protein shakes, ensure, broths, blended and strained Soups (no chunks/rice/noodles/potatoes), Jello, popsicles, blended and strained yogurt smoothies)

Week 3 & 4: pureed

(purred oatmeal, mashed sweet potatoes, chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad (all with low fat mayo), avacado, low fat cheeses, lean ground turkey or beef, egg whites/scrambled, low fat yogurt, cooked and blended veggies, etc.) Basically pulverize everything but restrictions include (no real sugar, Pasta, bread, rice, crackers, all of the heavy stuff)

Week 4 & 5: Continued Pureed + Integrating more Soft Foods

I have a couple of questions I hope someone may be able to answer! :)

I'm on week 1 diet, and I am having a really hard time getting in 2 Protein Shakes a day. I'm lucky to get a whole one down. It's not that my sleeve is rejecting it, it's that I am sick of the constant sweet overload from the shakes and the Ensure. So basically I have been adding powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein to blended creamy soups and have only been able to eat around 4-6oz. per day of the Soup. I also have some milk in the morning, around 4 oz. I KNOW I am not getting enough of the protein he wants me to get in (80 grams minimum). But it's really hard when it's mainly liquids! How much protein intake is typical for a new sleever?(aside from doc recommendations)

Also, I am almost paranoid that soups are too much on the sleeve (even though though I've had no problems or pain...and it's on my docs postop diet). I guess that sounds weird but I was wondering if anyone else has done the cream based soups in the first week? I didn't start them until around day 4 per my doctor's diet. I am just terrified of busting open my sleeve lol I have followed the diet to a T but I'm even afraid that soup will cause too much pressure on it haha. Just wanted some feedback on that :)

Sorry for the mega long epic novel to ask those 2 measly questions. Thanks y'all!

You sound just like me! I'm 10 days post op today and feeling good but it seems nearly impossible to get my 80 grams of Protein in on full liquids! Yesterday was the first day I succeeded because I went and bought a bottle of Cytomax. It's like a clear Gatorade but has 40 grams of protein. I couldn't drink it all at once because it's super sweet, but I sipped on it throughout the day. I've also tried the clear Isopure but I couldn't stand the taste.

I am four days out and tried my first cream Soup yesterday, watered down with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder. I waited for 30 minutes after I drank 12 ounces of Water before I ate it and it went down really well. Absolutely no issues.

Today I tried some thinned sugar free pudding with a scoop of Protein Powder and could only eat half. My sleeve let me know when it was full. I ate it really slowly because even though it was thinned, it was still thicker than a Protein Drink so I assumed I would get full on it.

I do not get full on the shakes or Water. I can drink them non-stop in little sips until they are gone. I like the unjury chicken broth Protein Powder too but have to drink that really slowly too for some reason compared to shakes, and I wait for 30 minutes after I drink water. So far I'm not having any negative reaction to the taste of the Protein Shakes. I'm using Premier shakes from costco. Next Friday I am going to pick up some Peanut Butter Protein powder from my NUT to add to my shakes to mix it up a little.

Everyone is different and moves along at their own pace. Try your best to stick with your diet plan I know that its difficult at times but its really in your best interest to follow your doctors guidelines. If you happen to get a complication you couldnt help but wonder if it was because you didnt floolw you doctors instructions. When in doubt call your doctors office! Congrats and good luck on your journey!!

It'll take some time to get to the point of being able to get all your Protein. I am four weeks out and today is the very first time I got all 80g of Protein in.

I mixed a 40g New whey protein shot with crystal light and 20 oz of Water. It took a while to finish. Later I had a can of Pure Protein brand for the other 35g. I had a couple slices of thin sliced deli turkey and a sf Fudgesicle. Ta-Da!!!

I hope I can do that everyday, it's still cheaper that dining out.

I tried to hit my 75-90 grams of Protein target right away, but it was tough. I also got very tired of the sweetness of the Protein drinks, so what I ended up doing was mixing unflavored Protein powder with Decaf coffee, a little milk (about 3 oz) and splenda. I had this in the morning and at night for about 60 grams of protein total (the protein was 23 grams, plus the milk added 6 or 7 grams of protein).

I didn't do a lot of cream Soups but I don't think you're going to overdo it with just liquids . . . they should be passing through your sleeve pretty quickly. However, it's not a bad idea to stick with the portions your nutritionist recommended. Even when I was on full liquids and purees, I was to limit myself to 2 oz per meal.

Thanks for the insight everyone! Great advice and I feel much better today; no extreme paranoia about my sleeve exploding over Soup :).

GAH I feel like a crazy lady sometimes trying to take care of this "sleeve child" lol.

My diet is similar to yours and I ate the cream Soups and I could only eat about 2oz because they are heavier but it didn't bother my sleeve . I was sleeved 04/16. And started puréed foods week 3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
