katyb 36 Posted May 7, 2012 Tomorrow, I'll be one week out and am going stir crazy. I'm staying with my parents while I recuperate, but think I may lose my mind if I stay here all day with my passive-aggressive chain smoking father. I'm off the pain meds, except at night. I flop around all night, so a dose of lortab keeps my acrobatics from hurting and waking me up. During the day, my pain level is less than a 1/10. Did anyone else drive (without significant pain or other issues) a week out?
MSVEEKAYWHY 6 Posted May 7, 2012 yea! started driving exactly A WEEK out. i was in the same boat, had to get away from my house!
topgun 63 Posted May 7, 2012 I did, if I needed to, but I actually preferred being driven just in case something happened. I don't think there's a problem with driving as long as you personally feel alert and able to drive.
ibapteacher 0 Posted May 7, 2012 I was driving one week out, but I don't think you should until you have taken no pain meds for at least 24 hours....My surgery was on Monday and I stopped taking pain meds by Thursday and drove the following Tuesday with no pain. PdxMan 4,292 Posted May 7, 2012 I started driving once I was off pain meds, about a week out.
BenisaMartim4 369 Posted May 7, 2012 I drove within a week. As long as you're not messed up on meds and feel like you can steer fine, I don't see a problem.
mesaucedo 207 Posted May 7, 2012 I drove the third day out, for a whole 8 hours. As long as you aren't on pain meds you should be fine.
Mews 37 Posted May 7, 2012 My doc gave me the clearance once I was off the meds completely.
Jeni Martin 26 Posted May 7, 2012 I second, third, forth, errr whatever that... once you are off pain meds you can drive, however I had problems backing up because it was painful to twist around. Suggest go out to the car sit in it and pretend you are backing up etc...
