Does This Sound Like A Leak?

Recommended Posts

Am so paranoid about a leak. Tomorrow I will be 4 weeks post op. Since yesterday I have felt bloated and had a crampy like feeling (middle of stomach and around to my back). This morning I took a drink of crystal lite and spent the next couple of minutes heaving over the toilet. I don't have a fever.

So, in your "professional" opinions, does this sound like a leak or a virus or what??

If you're concerned, a call to your doctor is in order. It's probably not a leak, in my NON professional opinion, but you should check it out. You're probably so stressed over the possibility that you're literally making yourself sick. Call the doctor. :)

Sounds like an irritated esophagus or stomach. It doesn't sound like a leak at all, but that's just unprofessional best guess. MIddle of stomach (which usually isn't actually middle of stomach) around to the back, even up through the shoulderblades, is a typical region to feel discomfort that's coming from the esophagus or upper stomach, or even referred from a bit lower or higher (we feel things in weird places... if I eat a bite too much, or drink too soon, I feel it mostly in the back of my throat).

Are you taking a PPI? Did you feel "clear"/normal before the drink of Crystal Light?

I am taking a PPI twice a day. I have been feeling this since yesterday. It honestly feels like gas, but I have taken gasx and it isn't going away. I have been drinking some hot Decaf tea and it seems to be helping..

It might be the start of an ulcer. My rn sister says this is something that can happen with this surgery.

You might also want to try peppermint tea. It's great, natural remedy for a variety of GI issues - and a good digestive aid. Carrot juice may help too.

If you'd had a lapband I'd say it sounded like you had something blocking that hasn't quite cleared yet. Since it's a different mechanic, maybe some type of esophageal or upper stomach irritation that has you a bit swollen. Or something that took a long time to clear. I made a Protein smoothie lastnight and I reacted differently to the thickness of it than I thought. I had literally two bites. 5 hours later I still could not swallow Water without some discomfort. This morning I'm still "tighter" than normal, but better.

I did have a couple bites of chicken yesterday - it was moist/roasted, but I am technically not supposed to have that for another couple of weeks. Maybe I just irritated it??

It actually sounds a lot like a gall bladder attack since the pain reaches around the side.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
