My surgery went very well. I didn't have a lot of pain. I actually stopped taking pain meds the first evening that I was still in the hospital because I didn't feel I needed them.

The gas pain was present when I first woke up, and it was local to my left shoulder. As I burped and walked, the pain went away.

Not everyone's experience is the same, but I didn't have any problems. I didn't even remember being wheeled into the surgery room.

It will be fine! I didn't have a lot of pain, either. Matter of fact, I quit taking mine the same night as surgery, too. I was up and walking really quickly and my legs were a little sore because I kept trying not to use my stomach muscles to get up. Once I realized that my stomach didn't hurt (like it had after my c-sections years before), I was fine.

This is the best thing I ever did for myself! You'll be thrilled once the weight starts dropping off!

Tyvette, I'm having surgery Tuesday. I'm saying a prayer for you tonight for courage and peace of mind for the best possible decision for you and your health.

I know what you are feeling and my surgery is more than a month away. In the end, its going to be the best thing we could ever do but you can't help but fear the pain and for me I also fear failure - what if I go through all of this and it doesn't work. What I am sure about though is that what I have been doing hasn't worked and if I want to be a healthy thinner person than this is what I need to do.

Hi tyvette04,

Good luck for ur surgery, I know how u feeling mine is due on 15th of May. By time I start get nervous as well especially when u have to follow all the advices u have been given about the food, ur medication, stopping alcohol and cig. Very Hard to cope, plus preparing itself and ur family needs as well. But I found that u can make thing easier by having a check list of everything u need and try to follow and cross out what u did and plan for the rest. As well I tried to drink cammomile and using the lavender oil plus some relaxation technics. They all plus many other things u can use to keep u positive. Also keep praying that keep u positive as well. When u feel really down just keep thinking about the new figure u well have and the new you u well b, just imagine ur new life and how happy and positive it will b when u not struggling again to find a dress for a party can fit u. I wish u best of luck and remember we all here for u, supportive and will keep praying for u

Keep us updated with ur progress

I can't really help with the sleeve questions, but I had my gallbladder removed by the same doctor on my Wedding anniversary (October 17). The night before I was so paniced. I kept thinking "what will this do to my husband if something really happens to me on our anniversary." I thought about all of those Discovery health horror stories about surgeries. It's anxiety and irrational fears. Something could happen, but odds are, you will be fine. I don't even remember going under. I just remember waking up. Then, I watched stupid TV for a week. My husband kept telling me I had to go back to work, eventally and I shouldn't rot my brain. He said he married a tax lawyer not some one who watches Maury Povitch, Dance Moms, and Toddlers and Tiaras. I told him to shove it! B)

This is going to be great! Before you go to sleep tonight, dream of the places you want to go and the clothes you want to wear when you reach your goal weight. Dream of not being tired when you walk long distances or not freaking out when you get the middle seat on an airplane. Dream of your next high school renuion or all of the events that will come in your life where you will actually want to keep the pictures as momentos instead of stowing them away because you hate how you look. Keep your eye on the prize!

Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since my surgery. Don't talk yourself out of it! You will be so glad after you go through with it. The surgery and recovery weren't near as bad as I expected them to be. The worst thing for me was the gas - it was severe after first waking up, but after walking and sleeping, it was gone! The first few days are an adjustment, and then it is a piece of cake. We will be with you every step of the way. This time tomorrow night, it will be over and the beginning of your journey will be here! You can do it!! Private message me if you have anxiety and I will talk you through it! I will be sending good thoughts your way, and I'm anxious for you to post and let us know how great you are doing!! Good Luck!!

HellO!

I'm 2 weeks post op, I had ZERO pain at all after my surgery. I had some complications during the surgery so the Dr had to stitch up the stomach all the way, even with this complication, there was no pain at all. Mainly just discomfort.

Don't worry about the pain, I think you should remind yourself why you chose this surgery in the first place. Everything else is all worth it!

For a healthy lifestyle the rest of your life, this 1 day stay in the hospital is no biggie.

Good luck and I pray for you! :)

Hope to hear from you after your surgery!

Gwynne

You will be fine. As soon as you go to sleep ur done. I had zero pain. I did not even fill my pain medication. I was just nausea and dizzy. Other than that I was fine. I could not sit straight up in a chair for long periods of time, but that passed. You will do great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
